Net Cutting

• Net machines
¾ can braid any size of mesh required, using single or double twine and can
also be worked with various twine diameters
¾ but it cannot baite, crease and braid fly meshes
• These can be obtained by cutting to shape the requirement and braiding the
edges later by hand.
¾ The fly meshes could be braided by hand after the net has been made
and cut to shape.
¾ Disadvantage: this process will have certain amount of waste netting
¾ The waste may not be serious if careful planning is made.
3 different cuts
1. Vertical cut
• Point cut, N cut N cut
2. Horizontal cut
• T cut, transverse cut, mesh cut B cut
3. Diagonal cut
• B cut, bar cut
T cut
Point and Bar Cutting
• A system should be adopted which can be applied quickly to obtain the desired
taper from either hand-made or machine-made webbing.
• This system of specifying the points (N), bar (B), and mesh (T) cut also
designates the direction in which the net lie.
• Half a mesh is lost every time a bar is cut and the cut webbing becomes 2 rows
longer.
Mesh and Bar Cutting
• Half a mesh is lost every time a bar is cut and the cut webbing becomes 1 row
longer
Taper Ratio

R = M T / MN where: R = taper ratio

MT = no. of T cut
MN = no. of N cut

If MT = MN, all B cuts 100

Ex. n = 100 meshes MT = 25 meshes
25
m = 25 meshes MN = 25 meshes
R = MT / MN = 25 / 25 = 1 (all B) cuts 75 25

If MT > MN 100
Ex. n = 100 meshes MT = 40 meshes 25
m = 25 meshes MN = 25 meshes
60 40
RCT = (2 MN) / (MT – MN) = # B cuts / # T cuts
= 2 (25) / 40 -25
= 50 B / 15 T
= 10 B / 3 T
= 3B / 1T + 4B/ 1T + 3B / 1T
If MN > MT 100
Ex. n = 100 meshes MT = 10 meshes 25
m = 25 meshes MN = 25 meshes
90 10
RCN = (2 MT) / (MN – MT) = # B cuts / # N cuts
= 2(10) / 25 – 10
= 20 B /15 N
= 4B / 3N

Seat Assignment
1. n = 200 meshes MT = 50 meshes RCT = (2 MN) / (MT – MN) = # B cuts / # T cuts
m = 30 meshes MN = 30 meshes = 2(30) / (50 – 30) = 60B / 20T = 3B / 1T
2. n = 200 meshes MT = 12 meshes RCN = (2 MT) / (MN – MT) = # B cuts / # N cuts
m = 30 meshes MN = 30 meshes = 2(12) / (30 -12) = 24B / 18N = 4B / 3N
3. n = 200 meshes MT = 50 meshes RCT = (2 MN) / (MT – MN) = # B cuts / # T cuts
m = 30 meshes MN = 15 meshes = 2(15) / (50 – 15) = 30 B /35 T
=6B/7T
=2B/2T+2B/3T+2B/2T
