Subject : Individual Project, brochure on hockey.
This memo is to inform you of what and how I will conduct my unit 4 project, which is to make a
informational brochure about hockey. This brochure will be focused on the beginner or and youth level
of hockey.

Proposal:
I will create a brochure from scratch with information including rules, explanation of penalties, and tips
to help a beginner out while not on the ice. This brochure will be a single page brochure tri-folded with
information on both sides. It may also include an insert if necessary. Also a work cited will be attached
separately. There are three components that will be required for this project; they are a writing
component, reading component and a visual or technical component. The reading component will be
fulfilled by the MLA works cited document that will be included with the brochure. This will include
multiple internet sources as well as a possible interview with my former first hockey coach. The writing
portion will be satisfied by brochure itself. I am planning on including three different sections in the
brochure. One of them will include explanations of the simple rules including icing, and offsides.
Another section will focus on penalties and a third on things a beginning player can do to help them
self’s when they are not on the ice. The final component, visual and technical will be fulfilled by the
figures and diagrams that will be included.

Objectives:
I have a few objectives that are associated with this project. The first is to expand my knowledge on
how to use Microsoft Publisher. I have used this program in the past for other brochure projects but
have not perfected or used all of the features it offers. A second objective would be to start learning on
how to be a coach. Coaching is something that I have wanted to do ever since my high school hockey
days were over. I expect to reinforce my discipline through this project. I am very good at setting a due
date and then satisfying that due date.

Methods:
I will be gathering information two different ways. One way will be using my prior experience of
seventeen years of hockey. I have played hockey from the age of three and worked hard to become my
high school’s co-captain my senior year of high school. I will also be doing online research and with the
research developing the brochure. I will use the following steps to create the brochure:

 I will first re-acclimate myself with Microsoft publisher. It has been quite awhile since I have last
used the program and will need a refresher.
 I will create an outline using general facts and general headings.
 I will then talk to my former hockey coaches about how they handled different situations.
 I will research online as to the best way to teach children the rules and fundamentals of the
game of hockey.
 I will first create my brochure and then revise it after.
