Overview
This report was created in order to know the napping habits of certain students in grade
12 STEM- goodall. This will help to spread awareness on what a student experience
after a night of inadequate rest, particularly it's performance in school. This will also help
to understand the importance of rest and remove the stigma about taking a nap a lazy
act.

12 out of 42 students or 29% experience the lackness of sleep. Their main reason is
bad habits and internet surfing addiction. The reasons are with in the control of
students. All of the 12 students take nap during their excess time to compensate their
minimal time of rest. They believe that it can alleviate their state of mind and their beliefs
are supported by facts sought. Both students and Teachers must be a aware about
taking nap of students as a way of compensate inadequate sleep and a not a lazy act.

Background

Getting enough sleep makes up a vitally important component of a healthy and balanced
lifestyle. And simply it is a way of relaxation and rest. On the other hand, World Health
Organization (WHO) defines it as a key to a state of complete physical, mental and social
well-being.

The purpose of this was to determine the sleeping and napping pattern of grade 12 STEM -
goodall students in BINHS and its influence on student’s ability to concentrate and to support it
with counterpart evidences. This paper will also help each of the students to understand the
importance of taking a nap in a given situation.

Although the students are aware of how a relaxing evening sleep can be advantageous to them,
they do not know how taking a nap can also be advantageous. A nap is a short sleep, that is done
during daytime hours as an adjunct to the usual night time sleep period. It is done most often as a
response to drowsiness. Finding a time to make short break through a nap during the course of
the day leaves them feeling more energized.

Discussion
The report utilizes information from medical researchs together with the data gathered
through survey questionnaires. Through purposive sampling, the questionnaires were
distributed to those students who experience lack of sleep. The fact that they sleep less
than the required amount of sleep of 6 - 8 hours they are considered sleeping
inadequately. Each answered questionnaire was tabulated by a tally sheet.

Out of 42 students or 29% in grade 12 STEM - goodall, 12 experience lack of sleep. 5

student only spend 2-3 hour of rest while 2 students and 5 students take rest for 4 hours
and 5 hours of sleep respectively. Consequently, the main reasons on this are because
of their personal issues and health problems, own bad habits and internet surfing
adddiction tabulated as 3, 4 and 5 persons respectively. The lackness of sleep they are
experiencing causes them not to concentrate well and lack of interest during class
discussion.

12 out of 12 students also revealed they are using their excess time to take a nap during
snack and lunch break to compensate their inadequate amount of sleep. According to
them they can perform well after they take a nap. Their idea about taking a nap are
supported by facts and it is beneficial. According to the research of Behavioral Brain
Research, nap is equivalent to a cup of coffee but can't have side effects to our body.
Alternately according to Tietzel, A., 2001 a 10-minute nap can immediately improve
there was an immediate improveme subjective alertness and cognitive performance
which can be was maintain for a short span of an hour.

Conclusion

The main reason on why grade 12 STEM - goodall students had inadequate sleep is because of
internet addiction and bad habits. Regardless of the reasons on why the students of grade
12 STEM - goodall, 12 out 42 students experience lack of sleep. Students use their
spare time to compensate their lackness of sleep. They are aware that it can alleviate
their state of mind and perform well afterwards in a limited span of time. Although sleep
is important, students find a way to rest. Taking a nap is not a lazy act but it is an
advantagous way to rest.

Students should not neglect the importance of sleep and also manage their time wisely.
Students and Teachers should be aware of this issue to not have a misinterpretation on
taking nap as a lazy act rather a way of taking rest.
