Reflection: Vancomycin MUE for P&T

Pre-reflection:

I will be collecting data through the electronic medical record to assess Lutheran Hospital use of
vancomycin. This is done every few months and presented to the P&T committee members consisting of
nurses, doctors, IT personnel, and pharmacists. I will be focused on dose, indication, trough levels,
serum creatinine, nephrotoxic agents, and ordering physician. I hope to give a concise and accurate
presentation to the committee about vancomycin use and offer recommendations to prevent
nephrotoxicity and inappropriate use. In order to follow my teaching philosophy, I will be open and
personable in regard to questions and plan to keep my slides visually appealing and concise.

Post-reflection:

My vancomycin MUE was a successful experience and I can feel my confidence with public
speaking beginning to grow. I felt comfortable with my information and explained my information
clearly as I ensured to stay professional and positive. My slides were simple to follow the slide deck for
the committee meeting and I used tables when appropriate. I was able to answer questions confidently.
A few questions not regarding my specific MUE arose that the infectious disease pharmacist was able to
be of assistance. Overall, it was a successful informational session that also gave brief insight to the
upcoming dosing strategy change moving from trough-base to AUC-based dosing for pharmacists.
