Auryxia P&T committee education

Pre-Reflection:

I will be presenting at the Lutheran Health Network P&T committee meeting about Auryxia ©
(ferric citrate). My goal is to briefly introduce this medication to the group as a category B drug. The P&T
committee meeting presentations have a structured format that is expected to easily flow and match
with other presentations/topics. In order to meet this demand, I will format my slides in a visually
appealing yet simplistic way using the required background. I will introduce the medication by name and
class, move into similar agents (helps learner relate to prior experience with like drugs), then I will
clearly explain mechanism of action, indications, and adverse effects/precautions. I will finish with a
cost-effectiveness slide comparing similar agents in a table format for ease of reading. I hope that I can
verbally communicate clearly and effectively. To grow my confidence, I will practice aloud at home and
arrange the information in a way that flows smoothly.

Post-Reflection:

This presentation went really well. I felt generally confident in my information presented and
believe I was effective in giving pertinent information in a clear and brief manner. I didn’t have to
answer any follow up questions and I presented after a student describing another category B drug. I felt
it was necessary to ensure the room remembered what category B meant for clinicians and why I was
presenting this medication. As I have mentioned in my philosophy, I believe it is crucial for the listener to
understand the why behind a presented topic. Overall, my presentation fit into the busy agenda and
flowed nicely verbally.
