Semi – Detailed Lesson Plan
Grade 10 - Diamond
June 18, 2019

Content Standard (1st Quarter)

Demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of sequences, polynomials and
polynomial equations.

Performance Standard (1st Quarter)

Is able to formulate and solve problems involving sequences, polynomials and
polynomial equations in different disciplines through appropriate and accurate representations.

Learning Competencies (1st Quarter)

 Differentiates a finite geometric sequence from an infinite geometric sequence. (M10AL-
Id-3)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a) Define finite and infinite geometric sequence;
b) illustrate finite and infinite geometric sequence; and
c) differentiate a finite and infinite geometric sequence.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Finite and Infinite Geometric Sequence

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
“Lord, we are gathered once again in your presence to start a new day. Bless our
teachers and fellow students as we go on with our studies. Give us strength and
knowledge o’Lord that we may learn well. Guide us throughout the day. This we
ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

 Developmental Activity
1. Presentation (Lecture/Discussion)
Finite Sequence is a function whose domain is the finite set (1,2,3,…,n).
Infinite Sequence is a function whose domain is the infinite set (1,2,3,…).
Finite Geometric Sequence is a geometric series that does not end.

Activity No. 3
GEOMETRIC SEQUENCE

I. Identify if the following sequences of numbers are arithmetic sequences or

geometric sequences. Write A in the blanks if they are arithmetic sequences and
G if they are geometric sequences.
____ 1. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, . . .
____ 2. 5, 15, 45, 135, . . .
____ 3. 4, 16, 64, 256, . . .
____ 4. 2, 1, .5, .25, .125, . . .
____ 5. 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, . . .

II. Using the same sets of numbers in Exercise A, indicate the common differences
(d) of the arithmetic sequences and the common ratios (r) of the geometric
sequences. Indicate whether your answers are common differences or ratios.

III. Determine if the given sequence is geometric or not. Write G in the blank if it is
and N if it is not.
_____ 1. 1, 3, 9, 27, 81, . . .
_____ 2. –4, 8, –16, 32, –64, . . .
_____ 3. 1, 4, 16, 64, . . .
_____ 4. 20, 13, 6, –1, –8, . . .
_____ 5. –5, 0, 5, 10, 15, . . .

IV. Find the nth term in the following geometric sequences.

1. 5th term if the 1st term is 5 and the common ratio is 4
2. 6th term of the sequence 1, 4, 16, 64 . . .
3. 4th term of the sequence if the 1st term is 5 and the common ratio is 2
4. 7th term of the sequence 3, 15, 75, . . .

V. Find the sum of the 1st n terms of the following geometric sequences.
1. The sum of the first 7 terms if a1 = ¼, r = –4
2. The sum of the first 6 terms if the 1st term is 4 and the common ratio is –3.
