Simulation of a single phase inverter

Objective:

1. To see the use of an LC filter on output.

2. To see the output of Bipolar, Unipolar and Square wave technique.
3. Design control system for Bipolar, Unipolar and Square wave technique.

Simulation

Simulate an inverter in MATLAB/Simulink with the parameters given as:

Vin = 100 V, fc = 1050 Hz, fm = 50 Hz,
R = 50 ohm ma = 0.6 to 3.4.
To generate triangular wave, use ‘Repeating Sequence’ block from MATLAB. The amplitude
of the carrier wave should be 2 i.e. it should vary from -2 to +2. So, the amplitude of the
modulating sine wave should be Am = ma * Ac = 1.2. Compare the two waves using a
‘Relational Operator’ to generate the PWM. For unipolar control system is different for two
different legs. For square wave there is no control signal.

Tasks:

 Simulate the inverter with given parameters and observe the output voltage waveform.
 Take FFT of the output voltage and sketch the FFT signal for the output voltage.
Task 1:

Simulate the inverter with given parameters and put snapshots of your Simulink file and the
output voltage waveform.

Output Voltage Waveform:

Write a detailed note on what you have learnt from this lab exercise.

I learnt that:

 How to use the LC filter for to get the sinusoidal output voltage waveform?
 Fundamental component of sinusoidal waveform is at 50Hz.
 For resistive load, output voltage & current both are in phase.
 How to generate the pulses by using the bipolar switching?
 In case of inductive load, output voltage & current are out of phase by 90 degrees.
