III-PROCEDURE:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Requesting everyone to please stand for a prayer.
2. Greetings
Goodmorning class? Good morning ma’am.
3. Checking of attendance
Who are not around?
4. Setting of class standard
Class, if the teacher is talking in front what will you Pay attention and listen ma’am.
do?
Very good, can I expect all of that from you? Yes ma’am!
5. Review
Last meeting we have discussed about properties of
equality right?
Before moving on to our next topic, let’s have first a
quick review about our previous lesson.
Tell what property of equality is illustrated in each
statement. Reflexive property
1. 13 = 13 Symmetric property
2. 5 = 2 + 3, then 2 + 3 = 5
Symmetric property
3. 5 = 9 – 4, then 9 – 4 = 5

Very good! Any questions/clarifications about our

previous lesson?

B. Developmental activities
1. Motivation
This time, we will have a game. I will group you into 4.
All you have to do is to find the value of x/solve the
linear equations using the Properties of equality. The
answer in each given has corresponding letter. In 1 =
A, 2 = B, 3 =C, 4 =D, 5 = E, 6 = F, 7 = G up to Z = 26.
Until you come up with a word. For those group who
finish first will be declared as winner. Am I Yes, ma’am.
understood?

Time starts now!

1. x – 3 = 6 Answer is 9 (I)
2. 2x = 28 Answer is 14(N)
3. –x + 10 = 5 Answer is 5 (E)
4. x + 8 = 25 Answer is 17 (Q)
5. 3 - x = -18 Answer is 21 (U)
6. 2 – X = 1 Answer is 1 (A)
7. x + 10 = 22 Answer is 12 (L)
8. 3x = 27 Answer is 9 (I)
9. 2x = 40 Answer is 20 (T)
10. 5 – x = 30 Answer is 25 (Y)
The winner is group ____.
Let us give them a durian clap (No sounds clap)

2. Presentation of the lesson

This morning we are going to discuss
about Properties of Inequality.

These are the objectives for today.

Everybody read!
(Reading of objectives)
a. identify the properties of Inequality;
b. illustrate the Properties of Inequality
c. state the properties of Inequality;
and
d. apply the properties of Inequality;
3. Lesson proper
The properties of inequality are quite similar to the
properties of Equality.

The following are the properties of inequality. These

will be helpful in finding the solution set of linear
inequalities in one variable.
Let a, b, and c is real numbers.
Addition property: If a ˂ b, then a + c ˂ b + c
Subtraction property: If a ˂ b, then a – c ˂ b - c
Multiplication property: If a ˂ b and c ˃ 0, then ac ˂bc
If a ˂ b and c ˂ 0, then ac ˃ bc
Division property: If a ˂ b and c ˃ 0, then a/c ˂ b/c
If a ˂ b and c ˂ 0, then a/c ˃ b/c

Who can illustrate the Properties of Inequality a. Addition property

through the following examples? If 2 ˂ 3, then 2 + 1 ˂ 3 + 1
(The teacher will call students to illustrate in the b. Subtraction property
board) If 2 ˂ 3, then 2 – 1 ˂ 3 – 1
c. Multiplication property
If 2 ˂ 3, then 2(2) ˂ 3(2)
If 2 ˂ 3, then 2(-2) ˃ 3(-2)
d. Division property
If 2 ˂ 3, then 2/4 ˂ 3/4
If 2 ˂ 3, then 2/-4 ˃ 3/-4

What have you observe in letter c, the Multiplication I Observe that multiplying a positive
property? number to both sides of an inequality
does not change the inequality.
However, multiplying a negative
number to both sides
of an inequality reverses the
inequality.
Very good!

4. Application
Fill in the blanks by identifying the property of
inequality used in each of the following:
1. x + 11 ≥ 23 Given x + 11 + (–11) ≥ 23 + (–11)
____________.
Answer:Addition Property of Inequality (API)
x ≥ 12
2. 5x < –15 Given (5x)1/5 ˂ (-15) 1/5
____________.
Answer:Multiplication Property of Inequality
(MPI) x < –3
3. 3x – 7 > 14 Given 3x – 7 + 7 > 14 + 7
____________.
Answer : Addition Property of Inequality (API)
x >7
4. (3x)1/3 > (21)1/3 ____________.
Answer: Multiplication Property of Inequality
(MPI)
x ≥ 12

5. Generalization
What are the properties of Inequality?
Addition property
Subtraction property
Multiplication property
Division property
Very good!
