Introduction

On-the-job training (OJT) is a job training that occurs in the work place.

The new employee learns a job while doing the job and while earning his pay.

On the job training is also called hands on training. On the job training has many

advantages, but it can also have few disadvantages if the OJT is not properly

planned and executed.

The goal of the On-the-Job Training Program is to place the participants in

occupations that will serve as their prospects for long-term employment and will

ultimately permit them to become self-sufficient. OJT is very important not only

to teach students regarding their chosen career but also to know students the

reality about working. The students will have exposed to the actual work related

to the course that they are taking. It is the responsibility of the supervisors and

managers to utilize available resources to train, qualify, and develop their

employees and trainee as well. On-the-Job Training (OJT) is one the best training

method because it is planned, organized and conducted at the employee’s

worksite. On-the-Job Training (OJT) will generally be the primary method used

for broadening employee’s skills and increasing productivity.

To have a successful practicum program, supervisor need to assign a

coach to student involved in OJT practicum. It is the responsibility of the coach to

plan the training program carefully and conduct it effectively.

Page |3
The On-the-Job Trainee must be able to cope much with each task given to

him/her. The On-the-Job Training coach must in turn observe the trainee as

he/she is working on that given tasks.

On-the-Job Training entails significant benefits that could give trainees

invaluable assets for achieving gainful; employment. The training provides

students the opportunity to accurate and sufficient knowledge and skills relevant

to work habits necessary to be competitive in the labor market. The training also

assists individuals in developing professionalism and interpersonal skills

necessary for success in the workplace.

conditions in the Paranaque – Las Pinas – Cavite corridor. It also expected to

enhance commercial development around the rail stations.

The international finance corporation, the development bank of the

Philippines Pinsent masons LLP, and C&G (Gatmaitan, Yap, Patacsil, Gutierrez

project.

Mr. Fernando Zobel de Ayala said, “We are very pleased to reach this

milestone on this important infrastructure project. The LRT Line 1 is a vital

component of our city’s transport network that will help ease the pressures

brought about by the increasing development around the city. As we assume the

responsibility for the operations of the train line next year, we hope to be able to

deliver in due time a much improved riding experience that is safe and efficient

for our daily rail commuters.”

Mr. Manuel V. Pangilinan remarked, “An efficient transport system is a

catalyst for growth and an extended LRT 1 running all the way to Bacoor will

generate growth along the corridor. The LRT 1 has been in operation for over 20

years and today’s event brings forth the beginning of a new age for Metro Manila

commuters. MPIC with our partners Ayala Corporation and Macquarie

Infrastructure with Bouygues Travaux and A1stom behind LRMC, together with

proven expertise of RATP Dev, a global operator, look forward to providing an

improved and extended LRT 1.”

P a g e | 12
“We stay firm on our commitments to deliver a safe, reliable, and world-

class rail system comparable to commuter railway hubs in our region and bring

value for what commuters pay for. These will encourage more people to opt for

the LRT 1 as their preferred mode of commuting and thus relieve the

increasingly heavy traffic routes, rising fuel prices and concern for air pollution.”

Pangilinan added.

Mr. Michael T. Rodriguez said, PINAI is excited to be part of this

landmark infrastructure project with our partners Metro Pacific Investments

Corporation and Ayala Corporation. LRT Line 1 is an ideal investment for PINAI

and offers significant long-term socio-economic benefits.

deliver an excellent rail transit system. Both Bouygues Travaux Publics and

A1stom Transport is a well-known for their impressive records of

accomplishment in constructing mass rail transit systems in France and other

parts of the world. RATP Group, operator of the Paris Metro, tapped as LRMC’s

technical partner.

LRMC expected to complete certain requirements and obligations before LRMC

The Narrative Report

Being a trainee in Light Rail Manila Corporation was very exciting. It was

an easy and challenging at the same time because even if one is already mastered

doing every day there still has a lot of new things to learn. I was exposed to

actual work, became familiar with the documents prepared by the HR supervisor

and learned how to use equipment that are available in the office. Aside from

office works, I also learned to be more sociable, team player, and was able to

adjust to the environment and to those whom I was working with.

I was excited to apply all knowledge and skills learned from the school

concentrating on the Human Resource Management. As a student trainee I now

have to face the challenge of dealing with different types of people in LRMC.

I started my trainee from December 10, 2019 to January 29, 2020 to

complete the required 300 hours of office work. The first thing I did was to learn

how to deal with the big bosses of the office. It was a chance to showcase my

ability and to gain their trust. It was also a chance to build a good rapport with

them and the rest of the workmates and co trainees.

In my two months and three weeks of stay in this company, I learned

many things not only those related to my course but also that molded my

personality, develop my attitude into a corporate person. As I was working as

trainee at LRMC, I learned to become a hard-working person. Time management

and self-discipline are values necessary to finish the assigned task, and to make

P a g e | 19
excellent results. I learned to appreciate even the simplest lessons I learned in

school I was able realized how small things convert big results. I was able to

realize the importance of theories and formulas that were discussed in the

classroom. Also, realize that everything that was taught in school can be a tool

for our future career. Because during my On-The-Job Training, the term that I

learned from school was used in the company where my training was conducted,

especially those terms related to recruitment while on training, I also learned to

follow instructions and to admit my failure and accepts

suggestions/recommendation from my training manager for I know that this is

my improvement and for my own good.

After the training, I realized that On-The-Job Training is not just a

requirement to complete the course but it is also an opportunity where I can

show my skills, knowledge, and talents I have and my other potential for me to

become a better person and a competent professional. These experiences made

me feel equipped, boost my morale, and pushed myself into a different level.

Aside from the experiences that are related to my course, this OJT allows

me to be acquainted with the employees of Light Rail Manila Corporation. Being

with them was a pleasure for the reason that I worked with the best HR officers

and staff of LRMC. During my stay, they kept on encouraging and motivating

me to study hard and to do my best always.

I really had a very meaningful and memorable OJT at Light Rail

Manila Corporation. Though I already finished working there as a trainee, I am

P a g e | 20
looking forward working with them, not at a trainee anymore, but as an

employee.

Chapter 4

Problems Encountered

 Long queuing – As what I have observe being a trainee, there are times

that one of the problem on the operation is the long queuing on the teller’s

booth specially on peak season.

 Discipline – Employees tend to disregard policies especially new safety

policies and procedures. The disciplinary process requires plenty of

evidence, we need to get statements, records and other supporting

information to resolve issues which is very time consuming.

 Employee Queries – we provide the inter fere between the company and

the employees. HR department is the point of first enquiry when it comes

to employment issues, disputes or queries relating to work and

performances. Time consuming where you cannot proceed to your other

responsibilities.

P a g e | 21
Chapter 5

Recommendations

 The company may consider to have advertisement for the beep card in

order to introduce to the commuters.

 Keep accurate records of any disciplinary issue. This is to ensure that the

issue is dealt with properly. Resolution should be based on legal and

ethical standards especially that union has started.

 Easy data access is the key for immediate resolution of any queries.

Information should be centralized so that anybody from HR team can

immediately access the information and can resolve the query promptly.

P a g e | 22
Chapter 6

Conclusion

I conclude that the company has a great work when it comes to how fast

the transactions inside the office and the operations. Aside from that, the

employees of the company were very approachable, kind and very helpful when

there is a need for a trainee to ask unknown things regarding from her work.

Being a trainee I improved my skills like interpersonal, listening

presentation skills, acting freely around the people, typing skills recording,

documentation and organizational skills. I learned many lessons in my working

environment and learned a lot of ideas from the employees through interacting

with them.

Therefore, I had a great experience at LRMC and I would encourage them

to continue giving the students the opportunity to be trained in offices like in

LRMC HR Department.
