Learning Area Achievement Effort

English E E

This semester the class has completed units on informative and procedural writing. Jane has
demonstrated a sound understanding of the structure of both texts and uses the
appropriate language features related to each genre. Jane is a capable writer who
consistently demonstrates an understanding of the purpose of the text she is writing. She
uses complex verbs groups, as well as a range of circumstances, which adds further detail to
her writing allowing her to better communicate her message. Furthermore, Jane can
reference items across longer samples of text using appropriate pronouns. Jane has
developed her writing stamina and the speed in which she writes where she is able to
complete writing within the prescribed time. Moving forward, Jane must remember to
proof-read and edit her writing to ensure that spelling, grammar and punctuation are all
accurate. Jane continues to work hard in her spelling program where she has been working
with words that have Greek and Latin roots. She always completes her Word Study activities
to a high standard and often finishes her Word Study early. Jane has become a much more
active participant during whole class discussions/tasks sharing her thoughts, opinions and
work where her input often stimulates other students’ thinking. During guided reading
sessions Jane has developed her ability to answer inferential questions and is able to gain a
deeper understanding of the texts she reads.

Mathematics E E

Jane works hard during maths lessons and is able to master different concepts quickly.
She is able to transfer knowledge and skills from one concept to another. Jane can
measure the perimeter and area of shapes using the appropriate unit of measurement
for both. Jane can also describe the properties of quadrilaterals, triangles and 3D
shapes which helps her to classify them. Furthermore, she is able to identify the nets of
some 3D shapes, as well as, create her own nets to build various 3D shapes. Jane
worked well in the construction of angles, can clearly identify the different types
according to their properties and can accurately measure angles. She has showed
improvements when working with fractions where she can order unit fractions and
solve problems which require her to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. Jane
has displayed a good understanding of the foundations of algebra and can successfully
find an unknown value in an algebraic expression. Furthermore, she can also write her
own algebraic expressions from given worded scenarios. Moving forward, I encourage
Jane to continue to work on her problem solving skills, as well as, to take on extension
tasks/tasks of a higher degree of difficulty.

Teacher Comment
Jane has continued to work very hard across all curriculum areas. She consistently
strives to do her best and improve in any way that she can. She continuously seeks
out challenges which will extend her. Furthermore, Jane sets high standards and
goals for herself which she achieves through hard work, self-motivation, focus and
determination. This work ethic and positive attitude towards her learning sets a
good example for other students. Jane’s participation in class discussions/tasks has
increased where she no longer needs a prompt to join and share her thoughts. Jane
takes on responsibilities and performs her duties to the best of her abilities. She
has developed her leadership skills further through her leadership role of
Discovery Centre Leader. This leadership role, as well as the time she has spent
working with our younger buddies and participating in the Kidpreneur Challenge,
has helped her grow in confidence to work collaboratively and share her thoughts
with others. Jane’s performance and progression this year will allow her to have an
effective transition into High School next year. Jane has been a pleasure to teach
and I have appreciated her sense of humour, conversation skills and our mutual
love for sushi! I wish Jane all the very best for High School next year.
