DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 9

Content standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American literature
and other text types serve as means of preserving unchanging values in a changing world; also
how to use the features of a full-length play, tense consistency, modals, active and passive
constructions plus direct and indirect speech to enable him/her competently performs in a full-
length play.
Performance Standard: The learner competently performs in a full- length play through
applying effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources based on the following
criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery and Dramatic Conventions.
I- OBJECTIVES
At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:
a. Differentiate modals of obligation from modals of prohibition;
b. Cite the importance in knowing modals;
c. Give advice using modals of obligation and modals of prohibition.

we will play with words.”

Word Bingo

This activity will be done by pair. The teacher


will give cards to each pair of students. Sentences
with missing modals will be flashed on the
screen. The students will then put numbers
which corresponds to the sentence on the
modals inside the box of their choice. The first
pair to shout “Bingo!” after finishing the game
will be the winner. However, if they have a wrong
answer, they shall pick a pair from their
classmate, and if this pair got all the correct
answer, they shall be the winner.

a. Activity “well done class! Now, I have here some pictures
on the board.”

The teacher will post set of pictures and set of


sentences on the board. The students will put
the dialogue under the picture that matches it.

c. Abstraction “ Modal verbs are a special kind of Auxillary


verbs. Like other auxillary verbs, they are always
used with a main verb but modal verbs express
an attitude to what we say. They can express
how certain or uncertain we are about an event,
or about how willing or unwilling we are.
Today we will focus on the modals of Prohibition
and Obligation.”

Each students will receive a problem card.


They will stand up and mingle. Students will find
partners and take turns sharing their problems.
They will think of advice according to the
problem of their partner using the modals of
obligation (should, must, have to) and prohibition
(shouldn’t, mustn’t, can’t). Each student should
mingle to 3 partners. There will be an allotted
time for each pairing.
