Assessment of Student Learning and Feedback
Notice in your observation the ways students communicate through speaking and/or writing what
they have learned. Specifically, take notes that strengthen your understanding of student
participation, voice, motivation, and understanding. Use the following grid to help you collect
your thoughts as you observe throughout the lesson.
Class Characteristics:
Describe what characteristics of the students
in the class need to be considered in planning
and teaching to facilitate learning for all
students. (Consider students' prior knowledge,
language development, social and emotional
developments, family, and interests.)
Motivation and Participation:
How are students positioned to participate in
their learning? What methods does the teacher
use to encourage their voice and interaction?
Monitoring Understanding:
In what ways is student understanding
monitored throughout the lesson?
Communicate the Learning Objectives:
In what ways do you observe students
communicating or explaining in their own
words the learning objectives and why they
are important to them?
Communicate Understanding:
In what ways do you observe students
communicating what they understand and
what they need more support in to better
understand?
Student Work:
What kinds of student work are students
engaged in? Is this collected?
In constructing this type of lesson, you need to
understand student's prior knowledge. Some
characteristics include social, emotional
development, and interest. I think the variations
that accommodated different levels of the task
helps provide a more efficient class.
Students are positioned to participate in learning
individually as well as with a partner. Each
student was able to dribble around the gym while
encountering another classmate by keeping eye
contact. To encourage their voice and interaction
he allows for student demonstration, and peer
interaction by answering a question or helping
another out on the skill.
Students understanding is monitored by visual.
The teacher would walk around the gym and if a
student is struggling offer words of
encouragement and help. While if the student is
doing okay the teacher would motivate and cheer
for more
I observed students trying to perfect the
objective at hand. Students were getting an
understanding because after he question asked
there was many hands raised to answer which
shows confidence as well.
Student's was able to demonstrate an
understanding for the dribbling skill by
performing it after all variations. Students could
also speak on different skills in basketball as well.
Students where engaged in reading while
maintaining their dribble in basketball. Students

Teacher Feedback:
What kinds of feedback do you see the
teacher giving students to strengthen
learning? (including positive and specific

example, is the feedback part of the whole
class lesson or individualized through
conferring.
How does the teacher record what she/he sees
and hears?
Self-Assessment and Reflection:
In what ways are students able to reflect and
self-assess their own learning?

work seems to be aligned because they are
participating in literacy as well as physical
activity.
Criteria i would use to determine if my students
are meeting the goals of the lesson would be
visually watching them, as well as asking specific
questions. I would rate student's ability by
numbers from 1-5
Throughout the lesson the teacher gives
encouragement, and praise while students are
participating. I hear him say “good job, one more
skip, you got the dribble”. He also provides
motivation, and correction to help a student who
is having some difficulties.
Feedback is more individualized by going around
to each student and providing the feedback listed
above. He also brings the entire class together as
well.
In watching the video, the teacher did not write
anything down but i do think he knows his
students.
At the end of the class and after he task, students
can reflect on what they just learned. Students
are also able to discuss topics with peers that can
provide peer reflection as well.
