At the end of the session, the learner shares nail care
services experiences and knowledge.
WHAT TO DO:
A. Get a clean sheet of bond paper (any size),
fold it into three equal parts. On the first column,
write KNOW, on the second, write WANT, and on the third,
write LEARN.
Then, write something about the word “NAIL CARE”. Write
your understanding and experiences with research under
the column KNOW.
DIFFERENTIATED TASKS:
B. Choose one activity that can help you show your
understanding of NAIL CARE SERVICES.
Activity 1: Prepare a poem or narrative on your
experiences and knowledge about nail care.
Activity 2: Prepare an advertisement (of a product) that
shows nail care
Activity 3: Prepare a song about your experiences and
knowledge about nail care

Qualification consists of competencies that a person must
achieve to perform in enhancing of someone's
personal beauty, such as, performing manicure and
pedicure, performing hand spa and performing foot spa
Nail care refers to the proper maintenance of the
fingernails and toenails. Nail care is important because it
helps prevent nail problems, such as fungal nail infections
and ingrown toenails.
NAIL STRUCTURE
1. Free Edge – Extends past the skin.
2. Nail Body – Visible nail area.
3. Nail Wall – Skin on both sides of nail.
4. Lunula – Whitened half-moon
5. Eponychium – Lies at the base of the nail, live skin.
6. Mantle – Holds root and matrix.
7. Nail Matrix – Generates cells that make the nail.
8. Nail Root – Attached to matrix
9. Cuticle – Overlapping skin around the nail
10. Nail Bed – Skin that nail sits on
11. Nail Grooves – Tracks that nail slides on

• Onychosis – Any nail disease
• Etiology – Cause of nail disease, disorder or condition.
• Hand and Nail Examination – Check for problems • Six
signs of infection – Pain, swelling, redness, local fever,
throbbing and pus
Symptoms
• Coldness – Lack of circulation
• Heat – Infection
• Dry Texture – Lack of moisture

• Color of Nail Bed – Bruise

• Tenderness/stiffness – Arthritis
