Failure/Problem

Component install (engine, main pump, wire harness, transmission).

Symptom
When the key switch on, the alarm appear and fault code is 172-3 (intake air temperature is not display).
History
Nil.
Cause & analysis

172-3 (intake air temperature high voltage) can cause by the following case.
- (1) Intake air temperature sensor is not good.
- (2) Wire of intake air temperature is broken.

Action
We inspected the machine and checked continuity of the terminal (intake air temperature socket) to ECM
socket. This has connection, but high resistance. We check the pump harness. The wire of the intake air
temperature was wear. This wire was across the main pump, so temperature was increase. This
temperature increase can cause resistance increase. Increase resistance can cause high voltage. So, the
fault code 172-3 (intake air temperature sensor fault (high voltage fault) appeared. Tapped the wires where it
wears to prevent from increase temperature.
