Repair and Reinforcement of Engine Frame N113

Background
In markets recognised for hard driving condi-
tions, cracks have been found on the engine
compartment bracket. The crack starts at an in-
terruption in the weld of the bracket reinforce-
ment.
A new stronger bracket has been introduced
into production as from chassis No. 1 825 158,
which has 1 mm thicker material and the hole
(80 mm dia.) has been removed. The edges on

the bracket have been stretched forward so that
the reinforcement is built to enable the use of a
continuous filled weld. The number of junction
plates towards the engine compartment are also
reduced.

Action
For vehicles in operation there is a service solu-
tion. Three reinforcements have been designed
and tested. Part Nos. 466 158 and 466 187 are
fitted to the left and right sides of the bracket. 1
Part No. 466 157 is fitted in the radius of the
bracket between the two reinforcements. 1
