Bushing kit for front axle

AM/AMA56, AM/AMA61 and AM70
Service kit, part No 1 355 387 Service kit part no. 1 355 387 contain-
ting.
Front axles AM56/61/70 have taper roller bea-
ring at the king pin lower end. A bushing type Part Name Part No.
bearing is now introduced as a service kit. The
bushing has higher friction than the taper roller Shim 132 713
bearing. The sensitivity for road wheel imba- Shim 132 714
lance vibrations in the steering wheel, is thereby Shim 132 715
reduced.
O-ring 811 045
The bushing type bearing should preferably be Bottom cover 1 355 233
mounted on the side of the front axle which is Washer 1 355 235
closest to the steering gear, but could if wished
be mounted on both sides. The kit contains Grease nipple 806 312
details for one side. Wear washer 1 302 890

Mounting description
To mount the bushing you need a service drift
which you make according to the attached dra-
wing.
• Remove the bottom cover, the packing
shims, the roller bearing and the king pin.
• Press the bushing into the steering journal
bore with the service drift. Press to the bot-
tom of the drift. The bush should end 8 mm
from the edge of the journal bottom. Slit
pointing towards the hub bearings.
Setting
Turn the steering knuckle to make sure that it is
moving freely.
Measure the distance between the axle beam
and the steering knuckle with the knuckle lif-
ted by a jack. Adjust if necessary with shims.
Distance 0 - 0.2 mm.
Grease with chassis grease through grease nipp-
le that should face the centre of vehicle.

• Lubricate seal and bushings. The grease

must be spread over the whole bushing sur-
face and fill all the small pockets.
• Lubricate and place the washer and the
O-ring around the upper bushing.
• Press the sleeve on the king pin.
• Ensure the bore in the axle beam and the 89.3 − 89.5
king pin are clean and degreased.
• Place steering knuckle on the axle beam. 84.6 − 84.8

• Push king pin up through the axle beam.

Press in king pin with 150 kN. Press force.
• Protect the bottom surface of the sleeve for 29
damage, use brass shim etc. 50

• Place the bottom cover with the O-ring, 8

2 mm packing shims, washer and wear was-
her on the steering knuckle. Tighten bolts to
135 Nm
