NOTICE OF ENGINE START PROCEDURE


1. MINIMUN FUEL QUANTITY NEED DURING ENGINE RUN
a) THERE SHOULD BE AT LEAST 8000KGS/18000LBS OF FUEL ON BOARD FOR
STABILITY REASONS
2. BEFORE ENGINE RUN UP, FLIGHT RECORDER CB (722VU-F42) MUST BE OPENED
TO PREVENT LOSS OF RECORDED DATA.
3. DRAIN MAST SHOULD BE OBSERVED DURING START FOR EVIDENCE OF
EXCESSIVE LEAKAGE.
4. GROUND START PROCEDURE IS AUTHORIZED FOR 3 SUCCESSIVE ATTEMPT. IF
FAILED THEN DRY MOTORING FOR AN ADDITIONIONAL 2 MINUTES AND SHUT
DOWN.
5. IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE ACCIDENT FROM HAPPENING, FASTEN SEAT BELT
DURING ENGINE OPERATION.
6. OPERATE ENGINE AT GROUND IDLE FOR FIVE MINUTES PRIOR TO PERFORM
HIGH POWER RUNNING.
7. IF EGT DOES NOT SHOW AN INCREASING WITHIN 20 SECONDS OR LESS AFTER
INDICATION OF FUEL FLOW, MOVE FUEL SW TO OFF. CONTINUE TO MOTOR
ENGINE FOR 30 SECONDS TO BLOW OUT THE FUEL AND THEN PUSH START SW.
8. IF IT APPEAR THAT EGT WOULD EXCEED TIME/TEMP LIMITS, TERMINATE THE
START BY MOVING THE FUEL SW TO OFF. CONTINUE TO MOTOR ENGINE FOR 30
SECONDS THEN PUSH ENGINE START SW AND OBSERVE START SW LIGHT GOES
OFF. IF EGT HAS EXCEED LIMITS, REFER TO ABNORMAL START PROCEDURE OR
ENGINE START LIMITATION.
9. IF ENGINE START SW PUSH IN BEFORE N2 INDICATES A SPECIFIED RPM, DO NOT
RE-ENGAGE START SW UNTIL THE ENGINE WINDMILL BACK TO ZERO N2. REFER
THE ABNORMAL START PROCEDURE FOR EXCEPTION.
10. BEFORE ATTEMPTING A SECOND START ON ENGINE, VERIFY N2 SPEED IS ZERO.

ENGINE START LIMITATION


1. WHEN USE APU, GROUND AIR SUPPLY UNIT, OR AN OPERATING ENGINE AS AIR
SOURCE FOR STARTING AND MOTORING ENGINE, THE MIN. DUCT PRESSURE --
30 PSI MIN.
2. STARTER OPERATION IS LIMITED TO 5 MINUTES
a) THE STARTER CAN BE SUBJECTED TO ANY NUMBER OF START CYCLES OF A
5 MINUTES DURATION.
b) A MININUM OF A 2 MINUTES COOLING PERIOD IS REQUIRED AFTER THE
FIRST 5 MINUTE CYCLE, AND A 10 MINUTE COOLING PERIOD AFTER
SUBSEQUENT 5 MINUTE START CYCLES.
3. STARTER RE-ENGAGEMENT SHOULD BE MADE AT ZERO N2 SPEED. UNDER
EMERGENCY CONDITIONS, RE-ENGAGEMENT MAY BE MADE WITH N2 SPEED AS
HIGH AS 10% N2 MAXIMUN.
4. WHEN N2 REACHES 15 % MINIMUM TO MAXIMUM MOTORING SPEED 24-28 %
ADVANCE "FUEL CONTROL SWITCH" TO "RUN" POSITION.
5. LIGHT UP --- EGT RISE WITHIN 20 SECONDS.
6. EGT LIMITATION
a) STARTING: 750 ℃ , IF EGT GOES ABOVE 870 ℃ , THE ENGINE MUST BE
REMOVED.
b) OTHER THAN STARTING: Ref to the limits(Ref. Fig 508/TASK 71-00-00-991-102)
7. ENGINE OIL PRESSURE - MIN. 10 PSI AT MIN. IDLE. NORMAL : 15 ~ 30 PSI
ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE - 65℃~160℃
8. N1 SPEED LIMIT: RED LINE IS 115.5%
N2 SPEED LIMIT: RED LINE IS 113.0%
9. OIL QUANTITY LIMIT: WITH THE ENGINE OPERATION, USUALLY OIL QUANTITY IS
21 QT. (20 LITERS) OR LESS.
10. ENGINE OPERATION SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTED WHEN WIND DIRECTION AND
VELOCITY MEASURED 50 FT. FORWARD OF THE AIRCRAFT EXCEED VALUE
SHOWN ON THE Figure 504/TASK 71-00-00-991-098.

TEST NO. 03 ENG VIBRATION CHECK

A. Do the procedure to display N1 and N2 vibration data during a ground run acquisition, on both
accelerometers (Ref. TASK 73-25-34-740-831).

NOTE : Vibration units are displayed on the SD as cockpits units converted from engine vibration
in MILS for N1 and IPS for N2.

B. Safety Precautions

(1) Make sure that the aircraft is parked in a clean dry flat area. There must be no oil, grease or
slippery material on that surface. Pavement must be in concrete because asphalt can cause
damage to the engine.

(2) Make sure that the Aircraft is not in an aft center of gravity condition
(no load in the aft cargo compartment).

(3) Make sure that the wheel chocks CHOCK - MLG, ENGINE RUN-UP
(98F10103500000) are in position in front of each forward outboard MLG wheel.

(4) On the panel 117VU:


- make sure that the switch that controls the PARKING BRAKE is set to the ON position.
NOTE : On the panel 312VU, make sure that brake pressure indication on
the Blue Brake-pressure triple indicator is correct. If necessary
pressurize the brake accumulator with Blue pump.

(5) On the panel 312VU:


- make sure that the A/SKID & NWS switch is in the ON position.

(6) Make sure that the N/WS handwheels and the rudder pedals are in the neutral position.

CAUTION : WHILE THE AIRCRAFT IS ON THE GROUND, DO NOT PERMIT THE ENGINE TO
OPERATE MORE THAN 5 MINUTES AT FAN SPEEDS BETWEEN 74 PERCENT
(2457 RPM) AND 93 PERCENT (2756 RPM). DAMAGE TO THE FAN BLADE MID
SPAN SHROUD CAN OCCUR.
