Lesson Plan in Science IV

Content Standards: The learners demonstrate understanding the different types of


soil.
Performance Standards: The learners should be able to practice precautionary measures
in planning activities.
Learning Competency and Code: The learners should be able to compare and contrast the
characteristics of different types of soil, (S4ES-Iva-1)

Quarter: 4 Week: 1 Day: 1

I. OBJECTIVE:
At the end of 50 minute-period, 100% of the learners are expected to:
1. Identify the different types of soil based on their physical characteristics.

II. CONTENT:
Subject Matter: The different types of soil based on their physical
characteristics.

ESP: Collaboration, Teamwork and Self-Confidence
English: Speaking/Reporting
EPP: Conservation of Natural resources, Appreciation of God’s creation

III. LEARNING TASKS:

Show various pictures and ask them what types of soil they need
to apply.

a. Allow the pupils to go outside of the classroom where they can
walk on school ground (uncemented) for 3 to 5 minutes.
b. If the weather is not good just let the pupils stay on the lobby
or classroom where they can still see the school ground.
c. Let them observe for 3 to 5 minutes.
d. Ask them what covers the surface of the ground and what it
contains?
Ask them also if similar things are seen if one digs deeper into
the ground. Do all soils have similar characteristic?

similarities and differences of the different types of soil.

circles should contain list of similarities and differences of soil
types.

EXTEND
Let the pupils secure a handful of mongo seeds and soak it with a
glass of tap water overnight. Let them bring it to class the next day.

What to do:
1. Group the class into 3 groups.
2. Let them name their group.
Examples:

Name of flowers
3. Each group will be given information sheet about soil.
4. Assign each group in the different areas of the school.
Each group will collect different types of soil samples.
5. Let them observe the different types of soil they collected.
6. Ask them to answer the guide questions of the given activity sheet.
7. Provide desired time allotted to work on the activities given.
8. Let their group presenter present their output.
