When planning lessons, I
am aware of the potential areas of bias and I plan for responses within the lesson. Right now, in ELA, we are going through a government unit that talk about voting right for particular groups of people. I plan ahead knowing what types of bias I may have, or my students might have, and add in discussion time for use to respond to each other and to keep our bias’s in check. At the beginning of each
lesson, I verbally tell my students the learning goal for that lesson or lessons. We discuss why it is important to be learning what we are and look at the standard that they will be accomplishing. I use the curriculum
available to plan my lessons. I also plan my lessons according to the things that my students will be tested on at the end of each unit or chapter. This includes daily, short, and long- term plans. I use daily lessons to help my student accomplish larger assignments later. I am always looking for
new ways to bring content to students. I try to use diverse methods such as videos, audio, and visuals. We use graphic organizers and breakout rooms so that it is not just listening to me talk. I use game to break up the content in a fun way. Every student learns differently, and I am always asking them what they have liked the best and finding things that will help them learn better. I try to adapt my lessons
as best I can. I have students that could qualify for GATE right now and students that need extra time to accomplish similar tasks. My school has a fair amount of flexibility and I am trying to navigate and find the best accommodations for each student. I try to make everything that I post online, but also offer that student may print and use as a hard copy. When it comes to larger assignment, I let students have more flexibility of how they want to present or turn in. For math, I have used Flipgrid so students can use words to explain their math process instead. (9/22/20)
