Q3. An urn contains 10 balls: 4 red and 6 blue. A second urn contains 16 red balls and an
unknown number of blue balls.
(a) A single ball is drawn from each urn. The probability that both balls are the
same color is 0.44. Calculate the number of blue balls in the second urn. [5]
(b) Suppose the number of blue balls in the second urn is now known to be 4. A ball
is now drawn from the first urn and put in the second urn. A ball is then drawn
from the second urn. Find the probability that
(i) This ball is red given that the one from the first urn is red. [3]
(ii) This ball is red. [4]
(iii) The ball from the first urn is red given that the one from the second urn is
blue [4]
(iv) Both balls are of the same color [4]
