USE OF BIODEGRADABLE SHOPPING BAGS AT SUI FIELD

Sui management has emphasized and urged to use biodegradable shopping bags and avoid
use of non-degradable polythene bags that posed severe threats to the environment and
human health.
The discarded polythene bags are choking drains, hanging by poles and branches of trees
and bushes and in water channels along with creating tons of debris. Moreover, burning of
polythene bags produces dioxins and furans responsible for producing serious diseases.
Whereas biodegradable plastic bags instantly decompose after interacting with sunlight,
water and oxygen lead to making plastic free environment.
In order to practically implement the intention of Sui management, a combine initiative has
been taken by Sui Administration and QHSE departments to replace polythene non-
degradable bags with biodegradable plastic bags at the entire Sui Field. Therefore, for the
purpose by virtue of concerted efforts of Sui Admin & QHSE Depts. a campaign was
launched in true letter & spirit by persuading Sui shopkeepers to explore and use
environment-friendly biodegradable shopping bags.
One of the shopkeeper Mr. Shahzad Akbar taking a lead in this initiative and was able to
explore and use the biodegradable plastic bags at an economical cost as compared to
polythene bags. He also arranged to maintain the ample stock of biodegradable plastic bags
for sale. Due to low cost and environment friendly other shopkeepers are also motivated
now, to use these bags.
Now, in a very short time non-degradable polythene bags and been completely replaced
with biodegradable plastic bags at entire Sui Field which will lead to clean the environment.
The success of the initiative is merely due to the management commitment and effective
team work of Sui QHSE and Administration Departments.
Award and token of appreciation are given to Mr. Shahzad Akbar through Sui management
in recognition of his efforts made for exploring and using the biodegradable shopping bags.
Other Assets should also follow and taking the same initiative to replace non-degradable
polythene bags with biodegradable plastic bags and making the environment clean.
