1 Introduction
1.1 Objective of the Manual

In general, the faults occuring in a BTSE are reported to the OMC by error reports.
These are based on system integrated routine tests which continually check the function
of all subsystems. In most cases suspected modules can be replaced according to the
procedures of the maintenance manual and regarding the fault reports.
For all the rare cases where an exchange of modules doesn’t clear the fault, parts of the
system can also be replaced but only by dismantling components spending higher effort
then for simple module replacement.
The aim of this manual is to describe how the location of these parts can be accessed
and to show in detail how a part can be replaced.

Restriction
Only the pure exchange procedures are dealt with in this manual, not the instructions of
fault location nor the test procedures afterwards.

1.2 Target Group

This manual is exclusively intended for use by TAC2 and TAC3 personnel. Only trained
and qualified people may carry out the non standard maintenance tasks.

1.3 Range of Replaceable Parts

The range of parts to be exchanged is restricted to those listed in the Main Construction
Catalogue (MCC) which can be reached via Siemens Intranet and IMS.

1.4 Qualitiy and Tools

All tasks must be carried out thoroughly. Cleanliness and care are of the utmost impor-
tance. Precautions has to be taken to protect the equipment against dust, mud and
moisture of all kind.
Only parts which don’t need a calibration or extensive tests after replacement are sub-
ject of exchange.
Tools should be of a high-quality standard as listed in the table of “Tools and Testequip-
ment D900/D1800/PCS1900” (A30862-X390-A101-*-7618). Special tools are neces-
sary e.g. Torx screw driver with and without a hole in the center. For more
convenience a power-driven screw driver can save some time when releasing large
amounts of screws.

1.5 Risks and Safety

Elevated voltages are inevitably present at specific points in this electrical equipment.
Some of the parts may also have elevated operating temperatures. Exposed sharp edg-
es involve a certain danger of injuring oneself.
The following warnings appear at the relevant procedures were necessary:
Elevated voltages are present at specific points.
!

Some parts may have elevated operating temperatures.

!

Because of sharp edges, handle with particular caution so as not to cut yourself
! or alternatively use hand protection.

Rotating parts may be still in action for a few seconds after removing.
!

When replacing components in the AC circuit, it must be guaranteed that the AC power
supply to the shelter is switched off and secured against switching on again.
Non-observance of these conditions and the safety instructions can result in personal
injury or in property damage.
It is highly advisable to carry out all tasks with the support of a second person for assist-
ing in moving heavy parts and for safty reasons in the event of an accident.

3 Print new Labels

The serial numbers on the labels should be correct, therefore is it necessary ei-
ther to print new labels or to change the document case (in case the document
case is not damaged)

1. Take your label printer and make a identical printout of the labels at the inside
of the old door
2. Paste the labels to the right position at the new door (see Figure below)

Alternative, only if the document case on the old door is O.K.

2.20 Remove/Mount DC Panel

1 Information

It is suggested to check very carefully if a replacement of the DC panel is really

necessary! If a replacement is required, please prepare for this procedure.
Make sure you have cable markers and a list to note all connections. THIS PRO-
CEDURE SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY SKILLED PEOPLE!

2 Remove DC Panel
1. Open door
2. Lock all CUs and Combiners in the rack concerned, if present (see Mainte-
nance Manual MMN:BTSE BS 240)
3. Switch off the (48VDC) main circuit breaker in Service1 Rack for the rack
concerned
(If the affected rack is an Extension Rack then it is not necessary to switch
off the Base Rack (parts of the BTS are still in function))
4. Unplug alarm cables in front (1) mark each separately and note their posi-
tions
