This document provides instructions for a practice exercise to create a lofted cup handle using direct modeling tools in Fusion 360. The steps include: 1) Creating a spline sketch between two projected profiles on a cup to define the handle shape. 2) Using the Loft tool to extrude the handle shape between the profiles. 3) Deleting interior faces on the cup with direct editing tools. 4) Adding a mirror feature to duplicate the handle to the other side of the cup. The practice aims to finalize the handle interface with the cup.

Practice: Created a lofted cup handle and use direct editing tools to finalize the handle to cup interface.
• Create a sketch spline.
• Use Loft. • Use direct modeling tools to delete a face.
1. Upload and open the supplied file “Lofted
Handle – PE.f3d”.
2. Start a new sketch on the XZ plane. Turn on
the “Slice” option in the sketch palette.

3. Use Project to bring in the center point and arc reference from both slots in Profile1 and Profile2. Ensure all reference lines are converted to construction.
NOTE: These references will be used to locate a
centerline spline for a loft so having a center or midpoint reference is critical. The line/edge references are to help create the directional constraint of the spline handles.
4. Create short construction lines from the center
reference points at each slot and ensure they are perpendicular to the projected reference lines.
Lesson: Practice 3 Page | 2
5. Use the Fit Point Spline tool and create a 3 point spline that starts and ends at the projected center points.
6. Apply a tangent constraint between the splint
and each reference line to control the spline tangency direction and adjust the spline midpoint until you are happy with the handle shape.
7. Create a loft between Profile1 and Profile2
using the centerline Guide Type and the newly created spline. Ensure the operation type is set to Join.

8. The loft left small remnants on the inside of the cup. Select the 6 faces on the inside of the cup created by the loft and use Modify > Delete to remove them.
9. Create a mirror feature using the “Faces”
pattern type across the YZ plane to copy the handle to the other side of the cup.
