Lesson: Practice 1

Practice: Modify a design so it had 2degrees of draft on all vertical walls.

• Modify features to include tapered walls.


• Analyze features with rebuild warnings.
• Use Draft.
• Inspect a design for appropriate draft.

1. Upload and open the supplied file “Plastic


Housing – PE.f3d”.

2. Roll the timeline marker back to the first


extrude feature.

3. Edit the first extrude feature and add a 2


degree taper angle.

4. Roll the timeline marker to the next extrude
feature.

NOTE: It isn’t required that you roll the timeline marker


back to edit a feature, but it helps properly diagnose
issues that may arise.

5. Edit the extrude feature and set the taper angle


value to -2.

6. Roll the timeline forward and modify the next


extrude feature and change the taper angle to
2.

7. Roll the timeline forward and modify the next
extrude feature with -2 degrees of taper angle.

8. If the hole feature has a warning, edit it and


reselect the sketch points used to create it.

NOTE: This feature does not have taper as an


available option.

9. Add draft to the 5 holes using Modify > Draft.


Select the upper face of the lid as the plane
and the inside diameters of all 5 holes for the
faces. Add 2 degrees and OK.

10. Inspect the draft with Inspect > Draft Analysis.
Set the draft angle values from -1.5 to positive
1.5 to ensure all vertical faces now are green or
red depending on their pull direction. Save the
file.
