The document provides instructions for practicing creating a pattern of components in CAD software. It instructs the user to: 1) create a linear pattern of blocks in the X direction, 2) copy one block and create another linear pattern in the Y direction, and 3) use align and rigid joints to connect corresponding blocks so that some can move independently while others are joined.

• Use Move/Copy. • Use Align. • Create a rigid joint.
1. Upload the file “Building Block Assembly – PE”
and open.
2. Create a linear component pattern in the X
direction with quantity 3, Distance 50mm set to “extent”.
3. Use Move/Copy to create a copy of Brick:3 -
25mm in the Y direction.

4. Create a linear component pattern of quantity 3 -50mm in the X direction.
5. Use Modify > Align. Each component has a set
of joint origins, go “From” the joint origin on Brick:4 to the corresponding position on Brick:3.
6. Brick:4 should now be sitting on top of Brick:3.
Use the “Capture Position” option inside of Align and OK.
7. Using the same selections on Brick:5 and
Brick:2, apply a Rigid Joint(J on the keyboard).
Lesson: Practice 1 Page | 2
8. Grab and try to move Brick:5 as well as Brick:4. Note that Brick:2 and Brick:5 move as one respecting the rigid joint, while Bring:4 is able to move independently from Brick:3.
