    RESEARCH METHODS AND SKILLS

    Assignment 1 (10 marks)

    Students are required to select a topic of their interest, from the courses
    they have studied so far, and identify a current issue in that topic. They
    need to conduct a preliminary review of literature related to that issue
    in order to:

    (i) Highlight the symptoms of the problem (2 marks)


    (ii) Identify and define the specific problem that can be (2 marks)
    explored or investigated
    (iii) Trace the important situational factors (2 marks)
    (iv) Write a research question as emerging out of the problem statement (2 marks)
    (v) Write a research objective in alignment with the research question (2 marks)

    Note: Worked examples are provided in chapter 2 of “Research Methods for Business Students” by
    Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill. Students can download this book from “Resources” on Blackboard.
