Let me tell you…

Once upon a time a man was born and
named BASIC-ESTIMATION (Given Name),
AND (MIDDLE NAME), CALCULATION (Last
Name). He was being admired by his teacher for
the reason that during their first meeting in their
class in TLE-7- CROP PRODUCTION, he was
able to master the competency of their lesson
with the following objectives:
Covert basic unit of measurement
Find the area in hectare
Calculate surface area (Square,
Rectangle, Triangle and Circle)

As an evidence of his extraordinary

performance in the said learning area. Below is
the whole concept of their lesson that he wrote
with his own insight.
Amazing!

Enjoy your
journey!

METRIC TO METRIC CONVERSION

How to convert
larger units to To convert larger
smaller units units to smaller
based from the units we multiply
illustration the number of larger
given below? units by the black
conversion factor for
the appropriate
smaller units.
1 cm = 10 mm
1 m = 100 cm
1 m= 1, 000 mm
1 km= 1, 000 m

Metric to metric conversions are less common—but easier to perform—than

English to English conversions. The metric system is based on powers of ten, meaning 10, 100,
1000, 10000, 100000 and so on.

Let’s try an
example of this.
Convert 3 meters
to centimeters.

First, think: which is larger, a meter or a centimeter? You would conclude that a meter is
larger than a centimeter. Therefore, we are going to multiply by the conversion factor. You would
4
look in the table above for the conversion factor from m to cm, and see that there are 100 cm in a
m, so you’d be multiplying by 100.
The actual problem looks like this:
3 m x 100 cm = 300 cm
We would use 100 cm as our conversion factor, because there are 100 cm in 1 m. Thus, our
final answer is 300 cm.

How to convert To convert smaller units

smaller units to to larger units we divide
larger units based the number of units by
from the the blue conversion
illustration given factor for the
below? appropriate larger units

1 mm= 1/100 cm
Example: 7 m = 7 -:- 1, 000
1 cm = 1/100 m
= 0.007 km
1 m= 1/1,000 km

ARES TO HECTARES CONVERSION

To convert any value in acres to hectares,

just multiply the value in acres by the
conversion factor 0.40468564224

To convert an Area measurement to a hectare measurement, divide the

area by the conversion ratio. One hectare is equal to 100 ares, so use this simple formula to
convert:
Hectares = Ares ÷ 100 .The area in hectares is equal to the ares divided by 100.

By definition, 1 hectare equals 10 000 m2. For example, a field with a length of
100 m and a width of 100 m2 has a surface area of 100 m x 100 m = 10 000 m2 = 1 ha.

SQUARES, RECTANGLES, TRIANGLES AND CIRCLE

The surface area or surface (A) of a square or a rectangle is calculated

by the formula: A (square or rectangle) = length x width = l x w ..... (2)
In a square, the lengths of all four sides are equal, and all four angles are right
angles.
In a rectangle, the lengths of the opposite sides are equal, and all four angles are
right angles.
To find the area of the triangular faces, use the formula A = 1/2bh, where A = area, b
= base, and h = height. Once you have the areas of all sides and faces, you simply add
them together to get the surface area.

The surface area or surface (A) of a circle is calculated by the formula:

A (circle) = 1/4 (¶ x d x d) = 1/4 (¶ x d2) = 1/4 (3.14 x d2) ..... (5) Whereby d is the diameter
of the circle and ¶ (a Greek letter, pronounced Pi) a constant (¶ =
3.14). A diameter (d) is a straight line which divides the circle in two equal parts.

6
Drive your insights with the
examples given below:
Example 1

Example 2

Example 3 7
Example 4

Given: Circle: d = 4.5 cm

A = 1/4 (¶ x d²)
= 1/4 (3.14 x d x d)
= 1/4 (3.14 x 4.5 cm x 4.5 cm)
= 15.9 cm2
