ACTIVITY 1Music,like people and some things ,move at different speeds. Musicians
call this element tempo.

Tempo: It is the pace or speed of a piece of music. It is written in Italian, and is


indicated on top of a music piece.

(Parents read the tempo term, the child read the meaning.)
Tempo Markings/ Terms Meaning
A. Slow Tempo ADAGIO slow
LARGO broad, very slow
LENTO slowly
B. Moderate Tempo ANDANTE moderately slow
ANDANTINO a little faster than andante
MODERATO moderate speed
C. Fast Tempo ALLEGRO fast, lively and bright
PRESTO very fast
VIVACE Quick and lively
D. Changing speed ACCELERANDO gradually speeding up
RITARDANDO gradually slowing down

as you can.

The title of the music piece is En Spadseretur by Tom Horn. Try to play the song.
The quarter note has a note duration of 1 beat. The half note has 2 beats. It is slower than a quarter
note. The Recorder Chart will also help you remember how to play the notes.
