1.0 Scope of Work
The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe the steps to be taken for achieving
specified requirement for installation of Low Voltage Transformer .

2.0 Personnel Rules and Responsibilities

a. the personnel present on site consist of:


Electrical engineers who monitor all work on site in order to ensure that all standards and
specs. are being monitored and that the work being executed is of the highest levels of
professionalism and accuracy.
b. Quality Control engineer inspects and ensure the construction work is carried out according
to project’s standards and specifications.
c. Foremen shall be present on site all the time to give out the correct Instructions for the work
required according to Electrical Standards and project specifications.
d. Qualified Technicians lead the way in the required tasks and execute instructions using
Electrical Code of Standards each in their own field discipline, while accurately considering
the project’s standards & specs.
e. Qualified Cable Splicer,trained and certified by material manufacturer,to install,splice and
terminate at Low Voltage transformer .
f. The rest of the personnel consist of labours to aid the technicians, store keepers to ensure
that the material stored is located in a safe environment with proper conditions of storage
and safety officers who guarantee that all personnel are abiding by the safety rules and
regulations of site work.

3.0 Construction Procedures

a. Physical Inspection of Transformers and accessories shall be carried out for identification and
damage if any.
b. Lifting of the transformer shall be done by using lifting hooks provided on transformers.
c. Trailer / Crane shall be used for loading, unloading and transporting the transformers from
store to site.
d. The transformers shall be properly tied with ropes and stoppers on the trailer shall be
provided to avoid tilting of the transformer in transit due to jerks and vibration.
e. The transformer foundation level and elevation shall be checked as per civil foundation
drawing.
f. Transformer shall be lifted by crane; special care shall be taken to avoid any tilting while
lifting.
g. Transformer base and structure are to have lifting hooks or lugs, towing and lashing eyes or
lugs and provision for roller wheels.
h. All other accessories shall be mounted on transformer as per manufactures recom-
mendation.
i. Final allignment and fixing of transformer shall be done after erection of bus ducts.

j. All the bushing shall be cleaned and checked to ensure that there is no crack or leakage.

k. All the nuts and bolt fitted with the transformer tank shall be checked for tightness.
l. All the wiring connections shall be checked as per vendor’s drawing.
m. Installation of all incoming and outgoing cable supports, cable ends and termination fittings
required for MV, LV and control cables.
n. Lead length from the gland to the centre phase terminal of cable box shall be minimum 450
mm and for the other two phases shall be maximum 500 mm
o. The LV Termination shall comprise 4 pole air insulated cable box with detachable gland
plate, complete with brass compression glands for receiving and terminating cables.
p. Tightening of bus joint, connector, and terminal bolts according to manufacturer's published
torque-tightening values.
q. Insulation resistance test for the primary and secondary winding and winding to ground .
r. Examine walls, floors, roofs, and concrete bases for suitable mounting conditions where
transformers will be installed .
s. Grounding installation as described in Division 26 Section "Grounding and Bonding" for
electrical systems. max. ground resistance shall be 5 ohms at location of transformer.
t. Identification of transformers and installation of warning signs according to Division 26
Sec."Identification for Electrical Systems."
u. Connect wiring according to Division 26 Section "Low-Voltage Electrical Power Conductors
and cables.
v. Insulation Resistance test of Transformer Primary and Secondary winding to winding and
winding to ground.

4.0 Conformance Criteria

The Personnel on Site ensure that the work done conform to the IEC Standard and
The required specifications.
For this task , it consist of the following project Standards/specifications :

1. NEMA ST 20, NEMA ST 1, UL 1561,UL 506


2. Enclosure: Ventilated, NEMA 250, Type 2 (for indoor use).
3. Enclosure: Ventilated, NEMA 250, Type 4X, stainless steel (for outdoor use).
4. Transformer Enclosure Finish: Comply with NEMA 250.
5. Compliance with NEMA TP 1, Class 1 efficiency levels.
6. Low-Sound-Level Requirements: Minimum of 3 dBA less than NEMA ST 20 standard
Sound levels when factory tested according to IEEE C57.12.91.

6.0 Plant and Equipment

The Equipment used in this task consist of the following :

7.0 Storage and Handling


As was mentioned earlier, all materials stored on site are monitored by qualified
storekeepers that ensure they are in good conditions and safe from environmental
conditions that might endanger them ( e.g. moisture, heat, dust,friction ) . Materials shall be
stocked and stored in a safe confined space to prevent from deterioration and damage , the
delivered material shall be checked to conform to the project specifications. as for the
handling , workers are instructed to carefully treat all equipment and material with care and
engineers as well as foremen monitor thematerial handling process for extra assurance.

8.0 Health and Safety

Health and Safety International Standards are always implemented on site


through our experienced health and safety officers and engineers so as to
prevent danger , hazards that mightlead to serious injuries.Use of approved
PPE uniforms, tools and equipment by workers at site.

9.0 Enviromental Requirements

All construction related works shall be executed to the highest levels of


quality While at the same time avoiding any operation that might
endanger the environment .therefore,materials are carefully chosen to be
as environment friendly as possible. Any hazardous material is carefully
stored as mentioned Earlier and scrap materials are carefully disposed off.
