Personal experience

My personal experience comes from the “Malay Mail” reported at Johor Bahru. The news shows
that the Johor Police will investigate students involved in drug abuse because the National Anti-
Drug Administration (AADK) claimed that there are 177 Form 4 and Form 5 students are in a
state of drug abuse. The findings were obtained from urine screening tests conducted by the
agency. In addition, Johor police will check the source of drugs and decide to complete drug-
related learning modules in order to emphasize the issue of drug addiction to ensure that the
public understands the dangers of drugs.
Personal thoughts
From the above news, I feel sad to see so many students taking drugs. Even though they have
many environmental factors, such as family pressure, peer pressure, or curiosity that makes them
take drugs, but I think they should not do this kind of self-destructive actions. When I was
young, my parents kept telling me not to do bad things, such as breaking the law, taking drugs,
fighting and so on. Therefore, I will control myself and will not be easily persuaded by drug
addicts. I will choose to discuss the dangers of drugs with them and try to change their negative
mindset in order to let them have a chance to change their future. Finally, I believe that as long
as everyone can think well and maintain a good mental state, they will not commit suicidal
behaviours similar to drug use.
Value learnt
Self-love
Based on what I have learnt from my personal experience of the case on drug addiction issues, I
have two lessons that I have learnt to share with my class.
First, I have learnt about the importance of self-love. With the self-love, our life will be better.
We can’t give up on ourselves. If we deny ourselves, how can other people affirm us? According
to the above news, it can be seen that the students do not love themselves, because drug use is
illegal, which may lead to a bad future for them. For example, not being accepted by society and
then leads to unemployment. Fortunately, the police discovered that the students involved in
drug abuse in time, so that the parents could always pay attention to the children's condition and
help them stop taking drugs. As long as students feel the love and encouragement from their
parents, they will realize that they must love themselves in order not to make their parents sad
and disappointed. Therefore, I will be a self-loving person, I will not do things that hurt myself,
even though others do not love us, but we can love ourselves.
Courageous
Second, I realised that I must have the courage to face everything. Whenever I encounter a
situation that I cannot solved, I will encourage myself to face and solve it. From the news above,
I realise that there is not so much empathy in this world. Other people will only blame students
for taking drugs, but they don't want to understand the feelings of student in the past. Therefore, I
think that student must have the courage to listen all bad and good voice from the people in order
to make themselves stronger. I believe that only by facing everything bravely, then it will let us
better take on and face the challenges we will encounter now or in the future.
