 The Pearl of Borneo

December 2019 depicts the weather’s diversity showcase. Some places experience snow
showers while some experience rain showers. I had an amazing and unforgettable family trip
to the Pearl of Borneo, or well-known as Labuan. It was a very refreshing and new
experience to my family. It was the first time we step our feet on the place. Every state in
Malaysia has its own trademarks and specialities, so do Labuan.

First and foremost, Labuan has marlin statuses everywhere. This statuses symbolise
glamour Fishing event that is being held annually in April. The event is called Labuan
International Deep Sea Fishing Tournament. This is the perfect paradise for avid fishers. It is
one of the top tourist attractions where the participants of the tournament not only consist of
local fishers but also including international fishers.

Moreover, scuba diving is also one of the outstanding activities in Labuan due to
appropriate geographical as it is an island that is surrounded by seas. There are four main
wrecks which are Blue Water Wreck, the American Wreck (USS Salute), the Cement Wreck
and the Australian Wreck. For scuba divers who have not dive for a long time, this is the
golden opportunity to embark on this diving journey.

Furthermore, liquor chocolate is one of Labuan’s fame. Chocolate consumers tend to visit
Labuan during Christmas promotion big sales to buy chocolates at ridiculously cheap price.
Three boxes of chocolates cost only 10 Ringgit Malaysia. You cannot find chocolates sales
anywhere in Malaysia as cheap as Labuan. My family was fortunate as we had the trip just in
time thus we managed to buy boxes of chocolates home. I was finally able to savour the
scrumptious mixtures of the sweetness and alcohol blend in together on my tongue, perfect
2 in 1 combo package. One of the chocolate shops that I highly recommend is One Stop
Duty Free Shop.
 Besides that, Labuan is a food heaven especially seafood. One of the top performances
restaurant is Mawilla Yatch Club Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant has various choices of
delectable seafood accompanied with spectacular sunset scenery. It is the ideal setting for
families, reunion with friends and couples. The signature foods of the restaurant are butter
milk prawn, Nestum prawn, salted egg crabs and mussels in chilli. It is the desired leisure
destination after engaging in strenuous activities.

Last but not least, it is also rich in historical heritages. The relevant historical resources or
information can be found in Labuan Museum. One of the rare masterpieces that can be
found in the museum is the signing of the Treaty of Labuan between the Brunei sultanate
and the British delegation on 18 December 1846 at the Brunei palace. I was hooked up to
archeological findings for instance, the real katana used by the Samurais, the cannons used
during war etc. These precious and epic findings demonstrate the significance of the
historical value as a part of Labuan.

To sum up, these are Labuan’s outstanding elements that we should be proud of as
Malaysians. This fascinating and enjoyable trip has broadened my knowledge in various
aspects.
