Lesson 2 – Geological Processes and Hazards
1. identify places in the Philippines that are prone to
geologic hazards like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and
landslides using hazard map; and
2. explain why it is important to identify places that are
prone to geologic hazards.
I. OBJECTIVE/S
Lesson 3: Geologic Processes and Hazards
1. identify human activities that speed up or trigger
landslides;
2. explain why it is important to identify human activities
that speed up or trigger landslides; and
3. cite some precautionary measures in preparing for the
landslides.
The learners will be able to understand the …
1. the different hazards caused by geological processes
(earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides)
2. the different hazards caused by hydrometeorological
A. Content Standards phenomena (tropical cyclones, monsoons, floods, and
tornadoes or ipo-ipo)
3. the different hazards caused by coastal processes
(waves, tides, sea-level changes, crustal movement,
and storm surges)

What I need to know?
The learners will do the walkthrough of the lesson
expectations.
Lesson 2 – Geological Processes and Hazards - p 272
Lesson 3 - Geologic Processes and Hazards – p 284
In this part, the content of the lesson will be presented.
Learning objectives will also be introduced to guide the
learners on the learning targets founded on MELC. (page

Some are just passing by and some even make history
because of massive destruction. Since disasters are all over

the news, what are the places do you think that
have been affected by geologic hazards for the
past decade. The learners will use the Philippine map on
the right side.

Lesson 3 - Geologic Processes and Hazards

The learners will read pp 287-289

What I know?
The learners will answer the 15-item activity to test what
they know about the following topics/lessons:
Lesson 2 – Geological Processes and Hazards - p 272-273
Lesson 3 - Geologic Processes and Hazards – pp 284-286
After answering the questions, they may check their
answers on pages 281 & 294 to determine their
background knowledge about the given topic reflected in
the MELC.

landslides? Can you name some?

The learners will encircle the word or group of words that
speed up or trigger landslides

What is it?
Lesson 2 – Geological Processes and Hazards
Now, the learners have learned that geologic location is
the major reason why the Philippines is a hazard-prone
country. The Philippine government partnered other private
institutions to reduce the risk of hazards through producing
hazard maps that are publicly available. For example, the
partnership of news networks with the Philippine Institute of
Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). This partnership
Shares valuable and scientific information which increases
the public’s understanding on geologic hazards and risks
associated with it.
Lesson 3 - Geologic Processes and Hazards
Activity 2: List and Describe
On the box provided below, the learners will list down the
human activities that cause landslides. Describe each one
how they contribute to the cause of such hazardous event.
To strengthen the points of their personal reflection and
further develop their knowledge about the topics based
from the What I know? activity, the learners will proceed
with reading and personal discussion. If they have internet
access, they may check this topic online using the links
provided:

What’s more?
The learners will do/perform the activities indicated in the
module. These activities include the following:
Lesson 2 – Geological Processes and Hazards
Activity 3: Identify me
Using the hazard map found on the previous pages, the
learners will answer thefollowing questions.
1. Identify the top 3 places in the Philippines that are
hazard-prone to volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and
landslides. Justify your answers why they are most prone.
2. What is the importance of using a hazard map?
Lesson 3 - Geologic Processes and Hazards
Activity 3: Share It
C. Engagement
Have you experienced landslide in your community? What
are the causes of such event? The learners will share their
experience. If not, kindly interview a person who has a first-
hand experience to landslides and ask his feelings,
thoughts and actions toward the event.

What I can do?
The learners are expected to reflect on the process of
performing the tasks while focusing on their learned
concepts about “Geological Processes and Hazards”

earthquakes on the following locations.

1. Home
2. Classroom and school building
3. Community (e.g. barangay, municipality or provinces)
The answer must be something similar to this:
In the community: Damaged roads and bridges
Lesson 3 - Geologic Processes and Hazards
Activity 5: My Share
People must be mindful and careful enough doing
activities that may lead to occurrence of landslides. As a
student, how will you do your part in preventing landslides
as to information dissemination, awareness and mitigation
planning?

What other enrichment activities can I engage in?

To further enrich learners’ knowledge, skills, and
attitude/values (KSAVs), they will be performing other
enrichment tasks such as:
Lesson 2 – Geological Processes and Hazards
Activity 6: Interview me
The learners will interview a family member, a relative,
neighbor or anyone who experienced geologic hazards
and answer the following questions.
1. Have you ever experienced any form of geologic
hazards such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and
landslides? How did you feel? What did you do during and
after the situation?

________________________________________________________
2. If you have never experienced any form of hazards, look
for someone who was able to witness and experience it
first-hand. Ask them their feelings and thoughts during and
after the hazard event. Also, ask them the things they
did during and after the scenario.

implement to address the problems presented in the
article?
What I have learned?
In formulating or creating bits of information reflective of
what they have learned during the Development and
Engagement phases, the learners will answer the following
activities/questions focusing on the given topic. The given
activities are directed on synthesizing their learned
information based on the given content.
Lesson 2 – Geological Processes and Hazards
Activity 4: Complete me
The learners will read the following statements and
complete them by filling in with the correct term and/or
phrase.
1. The Philippines experiences more earthquakes and
volcanic eruptions because it is located in the ______.
2. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are known as ______
type of hazards.
3. Surigao Del Sur and Davao Del Norte are at risk to hazard
due to ______ and ______.
4. Camiguin has the highest risk of effects of a volcanic
eruption because the land area is too ______.
D. Assimilation
5. Man-made hazard is classified as ______.
Lesson 3 - Geologic Processes and Hazards
Activity 4: My Take in Landslides
In a short bond paper, the learners will prepare a poster
showing human actions to be conducted to mitigate the
hazards posed by landslides.
The following criteria will be used to evaluate the output:
Connection to the topic 5 points
Layout and design 5 points
Neatness of output 5 points
