Purpose and Context

The purpose of this project is to deconstruct an existing master bathroom (tile, walls,
shower, vanity/sink, toilet, storage, flooring, lighting), remove a mold problem caused
inside the left wall by a leak behind the shower fixtures, and replace all components with
updated versions. This project will be undertaken in our 1949 home and will improve
the value and safety of our living space. The duration of the project will be 6 months
spanning initiation to completion. Work will be performed by homeowners, local
tradesmen, and skilled family members.

Phases or Timeline

Phase one of the project will be deconstruction or gutting – removing all materials from
the room and opening the walls to reveal bare studs. Clearing any mold and sanitizing
wall cavities will be a part of this phase. Projected 2 weeks.

Phase two will encompass the design of the new room and the selection of major
components such as the new shower enclosure, cabinetry, sink/toilet, plumbing fixtures,
lighting fixtures, flooring, and trim styles. Projected 2 weeks.

Phase three entails purchasing materials for reconstruction, including

plumbing/pipes/adaptors, electrical wire, ventilation materials, subflooring, hardware,
tools, drywall/mud/tape, insulation, and drains. Projected 3 weeks.

Phase four begins reconstruction. Plumbing and wiring rough-ins, insulation installation,
drywall installation, shower installation, drywall finishing, installation of trim, sink/vanity
cabinet, toilet, mirror, and wall-mounted storage. Projected 3 months.
