Lesson Plan- MAPEH 8

Grade 8- Cabio
April 6, 2021 (1:00-2:00pm)

Content Standard: demonstrates understanding of principles in the prevention and control of communicable diseases
for the attainment of individual wellness
Performance Standard: consistently demonstrates personal responsibility and healthful practices in the prevention and
control of communicable disease.
Learning Competency: Discusses the stages of infection H8DD-IIIa-15

Objectives
At the end of the session, the learners will be able to:
o explain the chain of infection;
o discuss the stages of infection;
o create a short presentation showing the chain/stages of infection;
o realize the importance of knowing the chain and stages of infection for prevention.
I. Subject Matter
Topic: Disease Prevention and Control (Communicable Diseases): Chain of Infection and Stages of
Infection
Reference: Online Sources, Nestle Wellness Module
Materials: PPT presentation, laptop, projector, cartolina, coloring materials, ball
Contextualization: Use clean towel, masks, face shield when exposed to public.
Integration:
 Nestle Wellness Campus Module Content (within subject area- MAPEH)
 Art/Visual Interpretation (within subject area- MAPEH)
 Graph Interpretation (numeracy)
 Taking good care of his/her own health (across curriculum content- GAD)
 To avoid any infection, practice good personal hygiene.
 Wash Hands often. (across curriculum
 Have a Healthy diet content-DRRM)
 Over-the-counter drugs can be harmful without doctor’s prescription. (Drug
Education)

II. Procedure
a. Awareness:
Daily Class Routine (Prayer, Checking of Attendance, Greetings to the Students)

Pass it on, Baby!


Instruction:
One student will hold the ball for 3 seconds and pass the ball to any of his/her classmates
without giving a hint. Then the other ball holder will do the same. Ask the students to do their
best not to let the ball fall on the ground.
 Did you enjoy the game?
 Were you able to catch the ball?
 What if the ball contains virus? Are you prepared to protect yourself from it?
 If you get infected, do you know what will happen next?
b. Activity:
Class Work: TAMA O MALI

INSTRUCTION: You will be answering TAMA or MALI statements.


After I say “GO”, you have 10 seconds to stand behind the word of your answer. The student
who will get the wrong answer will be eliminated from the game. The remaining students who
will get the correct answer up to the last question will be awarded with additional points.

c. Analysis:
After the activity, the students will have to answer the following questions:
 How did you find the activity?
 Were you able to get the correct answers honestly? How?
 Most of the questions are all about what?
 Out of the activity, were you able to draw out the topic for today?
d. Abstraction:
The class will engage in a discussion about Communicable Diseases: Chain of Infection and
Stages of Infection. (Please see attached copy of the PowerPoint presentation.)

e. Application:
Group the students into 3. Let them create a short presentation based on the task they you given.
Each group will be given 5 to 10 minutes to prepare for the presentation.

TASK: ROLE PLAYING


You will be portraying how a certain disease transfers from one person to other. You will be
following the links of the chain of infection. After the presentation, there will be a group
representative to explain what you have presented in front. All members should have a role to
portray.

TASK: POSTER MAKING


You will be making a poster about the chain of infection. You substitute the names of the
links of the chain of infection with symbols. There should have a group representative to present
your output.

TASK: NEWS CASTING


There will be students who will act as news reporters in front of the class. Members of the
group should make a simple script to be reported by the reporters. The script should be about the
stages of infection.

III. Assessment:
Directions: Write your answers on your test notebook.

Identification.
A. 1. These are diseases which are transferred from one person to another.
2. What do you call the disease- causing microorganism that attacks the body and infect cells?
3. This is the interval between entrance of pathogen into the body to the appearance of first
symptoms.
4. It is the route of escape of the pathogen from the reservoir.
5. The stage of infection wherein the illness reaches its highest point of development.

B. Arrange the following processes in chronological order. Write letters A to E on the space
provided before each number. (A is 1st step, B 2nd step, so on..)

__ 6. Convalescence stage is recovery stage.


__ 7. Illness stage is when specific severe signs and symptoms appear.
__ 8. Incubation stage is when a person acquires the pathogen.
__ 9. Prodromal stage is when there are non-specific signs and symptoms appearing.
__ 10. Decline stage time when the signs and symptoms of the sick person slowly go down.

IV. Assignment
 Now that you have understood the stages of infection, choose the stage where you think is
the best stage to CUT from the flow of infection and explain why you chose that stage. Write
your answer in a ¼ sheet of paper.
 Research also on the internet the 6 kinds of pathogens and list 3 examples of diseases that are
caused by those pathogens.
