1.04 REFERENCES
A. The referred codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level of
quality for materials and products. In case of conflict between these standards and
the text of this Specification, the Specification text shall govern.
B. The latest revision of the referred codes and standards shall be used wherever
applicable. In case of conflict, the Contractor shall propose equipment confirming to
one group of codes and standards.

1.05 DEFINITIONS
D. outlet: A point on the wiring system at which current is taken to supply utilization
equipment.
1.06 SUBMITTALS
A. The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission, under the provisions of
SECTION 01330, the following items for review and approval before commencing
work:

c) All installation details along with the fittings, supports and support
hardware for proper installation of equipment supplied.
B. The Contractor shall submit Field Test Report after completion of testing and
commissioning.
A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of Work and shall develop and
propose programs and methods of construction and testing to achieve the specified
quality to the approval of the Royal Commission in accordance with
SECTION 01450.

B. In the absence of any of the above, best accepted industry practice shall be
employed throughout.
B. The Royal Commission reserves the right of deputing their representative for
witnessing the factory test.
C. Upon completion of factory test and before shipment of the equipment/material, the
Contractor shall submit 5 certified copies of test reports not latter than 10 days after
completion of all factory test for review/approval by the Royal Commission.
A. Raceways installed indoors shall be suitable for continuous operation under the
following service conditions:
a) A maximum of 40°C.
b) A minimum of 0°C.
B. Raceways installed outdoors shall be suitable for continuous operation under the
following service conditions:
a) A maximum of 50°C.
b) A minimum of 0°C.
A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store equipment and material in accordance
with SECTIONS 01650 and 01660, as well as the following requirements:
2. Ship each unit securely wrapped, crated and labeled for safe handling in
shipment and to avoid damage or distortion.
5. Lift the equipment using eyes, yokes, and skids provided for the purpose by
manufacturer.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
A. All goods and products covered by these Specifications shall be procured, when
available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods manufactured
out-of-Kingdom shall be approved by the Royal Commission.
A. The Contractor shall supply rigid metal conduits (RMC), flexible metal conduits
(FMC), rigid non-metallic conduits (RNC) and flexible non-metallic conduits (FNC)
especially manufactured for the purpose of electrical wiring.
B. All fittings, unions, couplings, elbows, conduit bodies, bushing, ground bushing,
transition fittings, tees, end caps, locknuts, reducers and expansions, sleeves, end
bells, connectors, supports and support hardware required for proper installation of
conduit, shall be supplied by the Contractor.
1. Rigid metal conduits shall be supplied in standard length with threads at both
ends. One end of the conduit shall be provided with a coupling or connecting
device. Minimum conduit size shall be 20 mm.
3. Metallic conduits made of steel shall be hot-dip galvanized. The interior and
exterior of the conduit shall be coated with zinc of uniform quality and
appearance throughout all surfaces.
4. Aluminum conduit shall be supplied only when shown on the drawing. They
are used only for special applications. Aluminum conduit shall be
manufactured from copper-free (at the most 0.4% copper content is allowed)
aluminum alloy.
1. Rigid non-metallic heavy wall conduit shall conform to UL 651. The conduits
and fittings shall be made from suitable non-metallic material such as PVC that
is resistant to moisture and chemical atmospheres. The characteristics of PVC
conduits shall be as indicated below:
b) The tensile strength of the conduit shall be 41.3 MPa at 26°C as per
ASTM D638.
c) Flexural strength of the conduit shall be 75.8 MPa as per ASTM D695.
2. One end of the conduit shall have bell socket to join 2 conduits together
without using coupler.
3. For use above ground, it shall be resistant to distortion from heat under
conditions likely to be encountered in service and resistant to low and high
temperature and sunlight effects such as UV degradation.
4. For use underground, it shall be resistant to moisture and corrosive agents and
shall withstand impact and crushing during handling and installation. The
conduit shall be suitable for routing the cables rated for 90°C. Where buried
directly without encasement in concrete, it shall withstand continued loading
that is likely to be encountered after installation.
1. Flexible metal conduit shall conform to UL 1 and used for connection between
equipment that is subject to vibration or which requires movement for
adjustment and permanent raceways or for connecting 2 parts of the building
across an expansion joint. The flexible metal conduit shall be circular in cross
section and made of helically wound, formed, interlocked metal strip.
3. It shall be ensured that the length of flexible metallic conduit used for
connection between rigid raceways and equipment does not exceed 1.8 m.
4. It shall be ensured that the length of flexible non-metallic conduit used for
connection between rigid raceways and equipment does not exceed 1.8 m
except as permitted by Article 356.12(5) of NEC
A. Under-floor Raceway System shall be used to support lighting and power; signal and
communication system to desks; work benches and tables that are not located
adjacent to walls.
B. Under-floor ducts shall be made of welded rectangular tubing with rounded corners.
The ducts shall be provided with a continuous separator between power and
communication cables.
D. Flush-floor screeded ducts shall be made of galvanized zinc coated steel. The
removable top load-bearing panel shall be designed to lie flush with floor surface
within the screed. The system shall offer an easy access for installation or re-routing
of cables.
E. Under-floor screeded ducts shall be made of galvanized zinc coated steel or PVC.
This type of ducting shall meet the most demanding power, telecommunications and
data cable management requirement.
H. Cross, tee and elbow type of junction boxes, vertical boxes and adaptor boxes with
required barrier for segregation of power, control and communication cable shall be
provided as indicated on Contract Drawings.
I. The under-floor duct system supplied shall include all accessories such as reducer,
end caps, fixed and adjustable trunking support brackets, trunking fixing brackets and
fixing clips for proper installation of the duct system.
2.04 BOXES
A. General
1. Pull and junction boxes shall be either non-metallic or metallic boxes. Non-
metallic boxes shall be permitted only with rigid non-metallic conduit.
2. Pull and junction boxes shall be suitable for use with the selected raceway
system. Boxes installed in wet locations and boxes installed outdoors shall be
gasketed.
C. Outlet Boxes
1. Outlet boxes shall be plastic or steel depending upon the raceway system. For
exposed installation, outlet boxes shall be either cast steel or heavy duty
plastic, rigidly connected to the conduit system by suitable bushings.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL
A. The Contractor shall provide all materials, equipment, tool and labor as deemed
necessary for completion and proper execution of the work.
3.02 INSTALLATIONS
A. General
2. All buildings and rooms for the installation of the equipment shall be ready,
complete and clean. All embedded channels and anchor bolts shall be in place
as per the layout drawings.
3. All the facilities required for transportation of electrical equipment from store to
site such as competent manpower, crane and trucks of adequate capacities
shall be supplied by the Contractor.
4. All equipment moved to the site shall be inspected for damage or deterioration
during storage. Tag numbers and nameplates shall be verified with the details
given on the drawings.
5. All manpower and equipment required for installation shall be supplied by the
Contractor.
6. The gap formed between wall and raceway while passing through wall shall be
sealed with a water-based sealant, designed for use with metal raceways
(including RSC), EMT and plastic pipes.
B. Installation of Conduits
2. Where conduit runs occur in spaces above false ceiling, the conduit shall be
installed above false ceiling and not in floor slab. Interior conduits above false
ceiling and in furred walls shall be rigid PVC conduit.
RMC, and steel fittings and enclosures shall be permitted to be used with
aluminum RMC where not subject to severe corrosive influences.
7. The minimum clearance of 300 mm in parallel runs and 150 mm in cross runs
shall be maintained between conduits and surfaces with temperature
exceeding 40°C such as steam or hot water pipe lines. Conduit runs shall
maintain minimum clearance of 75 mm from cold water piping.
9. Bends in conduits shall be made in such a manner that the conduit is not
damaged and the internal diameter of the conduit is not effectively reduced.
Bends shall be free from kinks, indentations or flattened surfaces.
10. Field bends shall be made only with bending equipment identified for the
purpose such as one shot bender. The radius of the curve of any field bend to
the centerline of the conduit shall not be less than indicated in NEC
Table 344.24.
11. Install no more than three 90° bends between boxes. Use conduit bodies to
make sharp changes in direction, for example around beams. If point to point
conduit runs exceeds 45 m in length, or exceeds total of three 90° bends, the
Contractor shall provide pull boxes in location that are accessible at all times.
12. Long radius prefabricated threaded elbows or bends may be used with metal
conduit but normal water or gas pipe elbows, fittings, welded connections or
slip joint fittings will not be permitted.
13. The conduits shall be securely fastened in place and supported at intervals not
exceeding 2 m for 20 and 25 mm rigid metal conduits and 3 m for all larger
sizes; and 900 mm in case of rigid non-metallic conduit. The conduit shall be
separated from masonry surfaces by hot-dip galvanized malleable iron spacer
assembled with conduit strap.
14. The conduits shall be securely fastened within 900 mm of each outlet box,
junction box, device box, cabinet, conduit body, or other conduit termination.
Fastening shall be permitted to be increased to a distance of 1.5 m where
structural members do not readily permit fastening within 900 mm.
15. Where a conduit enters a box, fitting, or other enclosure, a bushing with
locknuts shall be provided to protect the wire from abrasion unless the design
of the box, fitting, or enclosure is such as to afford equivalent protection. Use
conduit hubs to fasten conduit to sheet metal boxes in damp and wet location.
16. Conduits shall be reamed after cutting or threading to remove burs and sharp
edges. Ends shall be cut square and butt solidly into coupling, connectors and
hubs. Connection to the boxes shall be made with locknuts and bushing.
19. The number of conductors or cables in a conduit shall not exceed the
permitted percentage fill of the conduit as specified in NEC Table 1, Chapter 9.
20. All conduits shall be provided with a 2 mm galvanized pull wire installed in it.
Use suitable caps to protect installed conduit against ingress of moisture and
dust. The conduit shall be bonded and grounded as specified in
SECTION 16060.
22. The Contractor shall supply factory fabricated couplings, connectors, unions
and fittings and supporting structure for installation of conduit. Fastening of
conduits, boxes or other equipment with flexible clips, field made straps or
nails will not be permitted.
24. Conduit running through unexcavated areas or under floor slabs lying directly
on earth fill shall be encased in 75 mm concrete envelope. Each underground
joint shall be sealed and made watertight with white lead.
25. The conduit shall be cleaned by mandrels and brush before installing cables or
wires in it.
26. Where the conduit entry into the cabinet, apply approved/suitable weather
proof silicon sealant around the conduit entry point.
2. The flush-floor ducts shall be adjusted in such a way that the removable cover
plate is laid flush with the finished floor. Install support at the ends and at
regular intervals not to exceed 1.5 m so they maintain proper elevation and
alignment of duct securely in slab or form.
3. The cover plates of flush-floor raceways shall be designed so that they provide
adequate mechanical protection and rigidity equivalent to junction box cover.
4. Approved metal flat top raceway of not over 100 mm wide shall be laid flush
with the concrete floor surface in office occupancies provided they are covered
with substantial linoleum that is not less than 1.6 mm thick or equivalent cover
flooring. Where more than 1 and not more than 3 single raceways are installed
flush with the concrete, they shall be contiguous with each other and joined to
form a rigid assembly.
5. Cast-in-place under-floor half round and flat top ducts not over 100 mm in
width shall have minimum of 20 mm concrete cover above the raceway.
6. Cast-in-place under-floor flat top ducts over 100 mm but not over 200 mm in
width shall have minimum of 25 mm concrete cover above the raceway for
minimum spacing of 25 mm between adjacent ducts. In case the spacing is
less than 25 mm, the minimum cover of concrete shall be 38 mm.
7. No conductors larger than that for which the raceway is designed shall be
installed in under-floor raceways. The combined cross-sectional area of all
conductors or cables shall not exceed 40% of the interior cross-sectional area
of the raceway.
8. Junction boxes shall be leveled to floor grade and sealed to prevent any
ingress of water or concrete. Junction boxes used with metal raceways shall
be metal and shall be electrically continuous with raceways.
10. Inserts shall be leveled and sealed to prevent the entrance of concrete. Inserts
used with metal raceways shall be metal and shall be electrically continuous
with the raceway. Inserts set in or on fiber raceways before the floor is laid
shall be mechanically secured to the raceway. Inserts set in fiber raceways
after the floor is laid shall be screwed into the raceway.
11. When cutting through the raceway wall and setting inserts, chips and other dirt
shall not be allowed to remain in the raceway, and tools shall be used that are
designed so as to prevent the tool from entering the raceway and damaging
conductors that may be in place.
D. Installation of Boxes
1. General
a) Flush mounted boxes shall be installed without damaging wall insulation
or reducing its effectiveness.
b) Boxes shall not be fastened to ceiling support wires.
c) Boxes shall be supported independently of conduit.
d) Cast boxes shall be used in exterior locations exposed to weather and
wet location, and installed in slab on grade.
e) Interior of boxes shall be cleaned to remove dust, debris and other
material. Exposed surfaces shall also be cleaned and the finish restored.
3. Outlet Boxes
a) Outlet Boxes shall be installed flush with the finished surface where
outlets occur in concrete finished walls or columns.
b) Outlet Boxes installed back to back shall be offset from each other
horizontally by a minimum of 150 mm to preclude noise transmission.
Provide minimum 600 mm separation in case of acoustic rated walls.
c) Outlet Boxes shall be fixed to masonry or concrete construction by
expansion anchors and to steel beams by clamps, bolts, etc.
d) Installation of boxes shall be coordinated with the location of equipment
for which they are used.
3.03 TESTING
A. General
1. Contractor shall carry out all field tests in accordance with approved test
procedure to ensure that the raceway and boxes comply with the specifications
and operational requirements. All tests are subject to witnessing by the Royal
Commission representatives.
2. At least 4 weeks prior to scheduled tests, the Contractor shall submit to the
Royal Commission an outline of the plan and procedures to be used in
performing the site inspection and site tests. This outline shall include a brief
description of the test equipment, connection diagrams, proposed tests and
procedures, test sheets, calculations, reference drawings and minimum and
maximum test and performance values in conformance with applicable
standards that will be used to determine conformance with the specification
and acceptability of the equipment and installation.
7. All factory and field test reports shall be included in Operation and
Maintenance Manuals.
