In this activity, my students are going to use Poster My Wall to create a World War 2 Propaganda
Poster, from the point of view of one of the Allied Countries (U.S., Britain, France, USSR, Australia,
Pedagogy Planning
Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland,
South Africa, Yugoslavia). This idea will incorporate a modern twist, the students will choose
either the country or one of the world leaders and create a magazine cover, with the purpose of
unifying the country and promoting hope during the time of war.
Activity
1. The teacher will introduce the topic of the lesson: The importance of
propaganda during the time of World War II.
2. The teacher will cite an example of propaganda from that time
period. (Ex. Rosie the Riveter). Explain the meaning/importance
behind this example. (Ex. Boosted morale and encouraged women
to join the war effort and work in factories & shipyards.)
3. The teacher will then introduce the students to the PosterMyWall
website/app.
4. The students will be tasked to create a “propaganda poster”,
highlighting either a world leader or a country from one of the Allied
Powers during World War 2 (They are to choose from the list in the
Pedagogy Planning section). The poster will be done in the style of a
modern-day magazine cover. Some countries/leaders will be
repeated but no more than three students may have the same
leader/country.
5. The teacher will then show the example shown in the section below,
and then present a quick “how-to” on getting from the main page to
the magazine cover templates, and then present a few of the
features they are able to edit. (Ex. Fonts, colors, pictures, etc.)
6. The students will have the rest of the class period to complete this
project and it will be due at the beginning of the following day’s
class.
7. The students will copy and past the link to their propaganda poster
to the class google doc form, upon completion.
8. After the presentation, student’s will vote on their favorite posters.
Students cannot vote for their own poster. The top three winners
will receive +3,+2,+1 on the upcoming test.
