Study of Real Time Operation of Bus Bars
ABDUL WAHAB NASIR (02) BSEE 16-20

Abstract

The main objective of this lab experiment is to understand and analyze a simple bus bar arrangement. The main and
transfer bus bar arrangement was analyzed in this experiment. We also analyzed the bus bar arrangements and
different schemes. The main and transfer bus configuration connects all circuits between the main bus and a
transfer bus (sometimes referred to as an inspection bus). Some arrangements include a bus tie breaker and others
simply utilize switches for the tie between the two buses. We also examined the procedure of load shifting.
Advantages and disadvantages of this scheme were also observed.

feeder can be taken from any of the bus. Actually
every feeder is connected to both of the buses in Advantages

flexibility of system.

Disadvantages

The arrangement does not permit breaker

maintenance without interruption.

II. PROCEDURE [2]

In this lab we are required to practically observe the

bus bar arrangements an performed tasks to know
about transmission line and bus bar arrangement
scheme. The procedure is provided in ‘lab manual’
provided by Sir Abu Bakar. Following the
Figure 10.1: Double Bus system instructions of lab manual tasks were completed and
results were observed.
By closing any of the isolators, one can put the feeder
to the associated bus. Both of the buses are energized, III. LAB TASKS

group is fed from one bus and other from other buses. In this lab we performed different tasks to understand
