Learning Portfolio B1 Questions

Textbook questions

1. Describe the circumstances in which you would post a negative message to social media

I’m the kind of person who rarely posts something about myself on any online platform such as
Facebook. If my memory serves me correctly, the latest post on my Facebook was 2 years ago. I
remember clearly that I went to the mall in Ba Ria City to buy some new clothes. I chose randomly
one of the changing rooms to try new clothes. After that, I put my bag in that room and went
outside to scan and select some new clothes because these old ones seemed not fit me so well. I
came to the exchange room again and did everything as I did. Sadly, I couldn’t choose any clothes.
Then I took my bag and went home. The problem happened immediately when I opened my bag
and realized this bag wasn’t mine. After freezing in 3 minutes, I had my own decision that I would
come to the supermarket’s staff to find out the owner. When I came home again, I post a status
about my mistake when taking the wrong bag and my apology to the group of Ba Ria. I don’t know
what happens after that, but the only thing that I realize is I lost my bag. My lesson is to check
carefully before doing anything and buy a super unique bag.

2. List three reasons why verbal and visual supports are important

Verbal support:

 Convey the emotion

Thanks to the pitch, tones, or volume, the speaker can express the feelings to the audience,
which helps raise sympathy. It is one of the important things that make the success of the
speech.

Visual support:

 Have the overview

Instead of using many pages to explain the increase of the products year by year, people can
only use a diagram to help others not only easy to investigate about the development of
products but also give a whole view of the process.

 Catch attention

Research has shown that people are easy to pay attention to and excited by images more than
words. Moreover, pictures play an important role in memorizing effectively.

3. Your college/university is preparing a brochure to persuade prospective students to enroll. The

school doesn’t want to invest a lot of money in full-scale document testing. What free or almost-free
things could it do to make the document as effective as possible?

Personally, there are a variety of ways to make the document looks effective but doesn’t cost much
money:

 The university or the college should have an online form to survey all the students to have an
overview of the good also the bad side of the school

Why they choose this school to study

Which points do they like or dislike most of the school

Are they pleased with the scholarship or the staff?

Does something need to be improved?

 Have a contest about designing and writing content for the brochure. The rules of the contest
are the brochures which have the most likes and shares on social media will receive bonus
activities points and a T-shirt with the school’s logo
 Post the achievements of the former students, clubs also school get in last year or recent years
on the social media
 The scholarship should be announced widely
 On the school’s page, the information on a welcome day for new students should be updated
and try to get curious from the viewers
4. Report writers can present their findings in a variety of ways to influence readers’ responses. Is
manipulating the way information is presented ethical? Why or why not?

Personally, I think having different ways of presenting information is ethical for the reasons below.
Firstly, “present their findings” in the question above, which means that the information is not only
exactly but also is the result of a long time trying hard of the report writers. Therefore, giving
information in many ways is kind of catching the reader's attention and make them read the reports
because of curious. It is worth it because the writers put lots of things into the reports such as time,
money, tears, and so on. Besides, numerous ways of how information can approach the readers are
made the diversity in reports and persuade readers to spend time on them.

5. What strategies do you use to overcome presentation anxiety?

I usually use these ways to overcome my fear:

 Take a deep breath to control my heartbeat

 Listen to house music to change my anxiety to exciting
 Injured myself. I don’t think anyone should try this one because it’s rather negative method
 Talk to myself some unique sentences such as hula or hoh

Portfolio Reflection Guidance

Everything consists of report and presentation that I have studied through this session is very
interesting and real. I have learned and experienced how to write a report, how to design
documents professionally, and also how to overcome the fear of having a presentation. However,
the most crucial part for me is the latest lesion about the presentation. Thanks to the materials that
ISB gave to me and especially from my lecture. I feel like all things she told me are completely from
her real experiences. Therefore, it’s more interesting and helpful because instead of spending lots of
time finding a solution, I can use that time to enhance my skill. Knowing how to use different types
of reports for different situations, writing reports fluently, and having a confident performance is the
bonus point in recruitment. Therefore, learning from a variety of sources, practicing day by day,
receiving feedbacks will help me a lot on the road to telling the world who am I.
