I. OVERVIEW OF MODULE 4
Title Instrumentation
Purpose After studying this module, the learners shall be able to:
a. Explain what validity and reliability of instruments mean and
how these qualities are ensured in the preparation of the
questionnaires/ interviews;
b. Discuss how questionnaires/ interview schedules are
prepared;
c. Prepare a questionnaire/ interview schedule for a research;
d. Discuss how questionnaires are administered and how
interviews are conducted.
Description This module includes the following concepts:

a. Validity of a research instrument;
b. Reliability of a research instrument;
c. Steps in the construction of an interview schedule or
questionnaire;
Module Guide This module describes how survey and questionnaires or interview
schedules are prepared.
Course Outcome Apply knowledge of physical, social, natural and health sciences and
CMO 15, s. 2017 humanities in the practice of nursing research
Module Outcome Practice nursing in accordance with existing laws, legal, ethical and
moral principles.
Module Requirement Students will submit a portfolio on the activities and worksheets
provided.

II. PRE ASSESSMENT Write T if the statement is TRUE and F if the statement is false.

usefulness of inferences a researcher makes on the data they collect.

scores obtained by the individual in a test or research instrument
administered twice.
