Properties of Materials
Matter is found everywhere. All the things found in your environment that have mass
and occupy space are examples of matter. Each material is made up of chemical substances.
Matter can be solid, liquid, and gas and it can be found at home. Examples are the common
household materials that we usually use for cleaning, cooking, eating, bathing, and repairing.
They can be useful or harmful if not properly handled. Thus, reading the product label is very
important to identify whether the material is harmful or not. Some materials may cause fire
hazards, toxic or poisonous, may cause burns, and may react dangerously when combined
with other materials.
The usefulness of a certain material depends on its properties. There are materials that
are durable and therefore can be reused many times. Though there are some that are not meant
to be reused but creative and inventive people still find other ways to use them.
Use the properties of materials whether they are useful or harmful (S5MT-Ia-b-1)
