Design a product out of recyclable solid materials at home
Recognize the importance of 5Rs in our lives
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of properties of materials to
determine whether they are useful or harmful
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to use local, recyclable solid and/or liquid
making useful products
C. Most Essential Learning De Design a product out of local, recyclable solid and/or liquid materials in
Competencies making useful products
S5MT-Ih-i-4

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Introduce Reviewing the previous lesson: ( Teacher will use Google Classroom
Meeting via screen share)
 What are biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials?
 Give the difference between the two and give examples

BIODEGRADABLE NON-BIODEGRADABLE

Pre-Activity:
- Write the waste materials in your home which can be used in
making the following recycled materials
1. Christmas Lantern

2. Flower Vase
________________________________________
3. Small Basket

B. Development RECYCLING
We recycled many items today. Plastic, Glass and Paper can all be
recycled to make new products. If we are to recycle we can create less
trash and lessen the pollution on earth. We can also save energy and
money
Activity 1:
Identify 5 materials at home that can be recycled.
Answer the following questions:
 What di you consider in identifying materials that can be recycled?
 Where are those materials made of
 Are the materials become useful after being recycled?

Activity 2:
Write what you can do to the following materials to make them
useful

1. ______________________

2. ____________________

3. ___________________

4. __________________

5. __________________
C. Engagement Deepening:
Read the situation below and answer the questions that follow
“ As part of their project in Science and EsP, the Grade5 Class of
Ms. Reyes was tasked to think of a plan of how to reduce the
amount of solid waste materials being disposed from their barangay.
First, they conducted a survey to the households in their barangay
about the solid waste materials they disposed every week”.
Solid Waste Materials:
1. Old magazines
2. Plastic bottles of soda
3. Junk food wrappers
4. Disposable cups, spoon and fork
5. Cardboard/boxes

screen share)
Ask:
 What is Recycling?
 What are the materials that can be recycled?
 Can we design a product out of recyclable solid and/or liquid
materials?
 Why do we apply recycling?

Activity 4:

Design any product using any of the following recyclable solid materials
below (5pts)

( old tires, worn out clothes, plastic straw, disposable cups, empty cans)

VI.REFLECTION  What did you feel in doing the activity?

 What is the importance of recycling?
 How can you apply the 5Rs in your lives?
A. No. of learners who meet the
expectation for the day
B. No. of learners who require additional
activities or remediation
C. No. of learners who need more
engagement tasks
D. No. of learners who exceeded the
expectation
E. No. of learners who did not meet the
minimum expectation
F. No. and kinds of materials that I used in
the lesson to optimize learning
