Bit Depth Jump when creating Sidetrack

Case Histories & Lessons Learned

From: Q&Ops
Introduction: Reminder to correct bit depth once sidetrack creation is complete.

Title

Problem: Bit Depth jumps to kick off depth while creating sidetrack even at surface. If unnoticed,
incorrect activity and data will occur if HKH moves and total depth increases.

Solution: If you need to create a sidetrack, it is recommended to do it when the bit is at

surface. When creating a sidetrack remember to move bit depth back to surface or to
correct depth.

In the following example a new wellbore has been added at a depth of 1855m. The bit
depth is 0.05m (on surface)

After the system is restarted and the setup panel is opened, the bit depth has jumped to
the kick off depth at 1855m.

Bit depth jumped to

KO depth.

Make sure to correct your bit depth. In this case, the bit was on surface so 0.05m was
entered.
