'Outlander' Season 7: Here's What You Need to Know About Sam Heughan & Caitriona Balfe's

Drama Series
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/caitr-ona-balfe-sam-heughan-192549081.html

Outlander fans asked and asked, and today they received the news they’ve been
hoping for: Outlander has been renewed early for a seventh season. Caitríona
Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin released the news in a video
today and kind of broke the internet. Fans are collectively freaking out. That means two
more years of Outlander — at least. Currently, Balfe, Heughan, and the rest of the cast
are filming Season 6 in snowy Scotland. They returned to set after a Covid-induced
year-long hiatus. Season 6 will air most likely in early 2022, or if fans are lucky, perhaps
late 2021. Now, I’m not a mathematician but seven seasons will bring us to 2023 or
2024 — Marty McFly has nothing on Claire Fraser! So much more Outlander to enjoy.

https://twitter.com/caitrionambalfe/status/1371137391784816641

In the announcement video, Skelton, Rankin, Balfe, and Heughan read fan questions —
and there were no fewer than 17 questions about whether there will be a seventh
season. They’re all clearly in costume for Season 6. Roger looks older. I’m no detective,
but that’s what I discovered. His beard is very beardy too
Fans are hoping Balfe will direct an episode, which she’s admitted she’s wanted to do,
and her fellow cast members have also expressed their support. Twitter fan
@mushka_mushk tweeted Balfe, “Excited to watch you all & really excited to hopefully
see you you’re your directorial mark. Thank you for your excellent work!” Balfe and
Heughan became producers last year. Will Balfe add director to her title in Season 7 or
maybe Season 6 even? Time will tell. There’s a Claire time-travel joke in here
somewhere but I will not make it. Not gonna do it.
What else do fans want for Season 7? Some are hoping Laura Donnelly will return as
Jenny in Season 7. Donnelly is in a new show for HBO, so a Season 6 appearance
seems unlikely. But seven could be luckier. Jenny always brought the fire (and water) to
Jamie and Claire, and her return would no doubt be exciting. She has years of yelling at
them to make up for. And we need to see it.
Outlander, based on Diana Gabaldon’s iconic book series, first aired in 2014. Season 5
pulled storylines from books 5 and 6. Gabaldon is close to finishing the ninth book in the
series.
So Jamie and Claire’s love story will continue for a few years and all we have to do is
wait. If you want to catch up on Season 5, you can get the DVD (complete with bloopers
and all sorts of extras) or watch along on Starz, and then read our episode recaps. And
since we have time, why not re-binge the whole show? Here’s our list of the best all-
time episodes ever — spoiler alert, it’s basically every episode.
If that doesn’t satisfy your Outlander soul and you need an Outlander-ish fix, Sam
Heughan’s Men in Kilts is the perfect way to get through Droughtlander. Each episode
includes Outlander facts or locations, and former co-star Graham McTavish joins
Heughan for this epic road trip, in which McTavish’s life is endangered no less than
three times an episode. Plus, you also get some vintage Outlander flashbacks.
So rest easy, Balfe and Heughan will be Sassenaching on Starz well into the future —
and we couldn’t be happier. Looking forward to at least seven years of Jamie and
Claire’s super stressful and iconic love story!

"We'll keep making this until Claire and Jamie are a hundred," one producer said.

ander's sixth season only recently resumed filming, but fans of the popular time-travel
series are already thinking ahead—way ahead—to a potential season seven.

Here's what we know so far:

Starz officially announced that Outlander had been renewed for a 7th season in March
2021.

“Starz is committed to investing in unapologetic, bold premium storytelling that

amplifies diverse voices and shines a spotlight on women in front of and behind the
camera through our #TakeTheLead initiative,” Christina Davis, President of Original
Programming for Starz, said in a statement. “The hit series ‘Outlander’ embodies
everything about our initiative including a powerful female lead character and an
amazing team of storytellers. We look forward to following the adventures of Claire and
Jamie in America during the Revolution as well as more time travel during this next
season.”

“We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the epic ‘Outlander’
journey,” Roberts said.

The 7th season will be based on the book Echo in the Bone.

“We can’t wait to get into the writer’s room and start breaking Echo in the Bone and look
forward to giving the fans another season of this exhilarating story,” Roberts said.

Diana Gabaldon's website offers the following description of the story:

Set in America, London, Canada, and Scotland. The book’s cover image reflects the
internal shape of the novel: a caltrop. That’s an ancient military weapon that looks like a
child’s jack with sharp points; the Romans used them to deter elephants, and the
Highway Patrol still uses them to stop fleeing perps in cars. This book has four major
story lines: Jamie and Claire; Roger and Brianna (and family); Lord John and William;
and Young Ian, all intersecting in the nexus of the American Revolution—and all of them
with sharp points. (1777-1778/1972)

The main cast is set to return for a 7th season.

Caitriona Balfe (Claire Randall Fraser), Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Sophie Skelton
(Brianna Randall), and Richard Rankin (Roger Wakefield) are all set to reprise their
roles.

Season 7 has been in the works for a while now.

At the Television Critics’ Association press tour in January 2019, executive producer
Maril Davis spoke about future plans for the series.

"We'll keep making this until Claire and Jamie are a hundred," Davis said. "Honestly, we
will. There's still many more books to go. And if Starz and Sony are willing, we're
willing, and if the actors are willing, we'll keep going."

Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch also hinted at the possibility of a spinoff. “We think there’s a
lot of opportunity in the ‘Outlander’ universe to have story extensions or spinoffs or
sequels. We continue to look at that with our partners at Sony,” he said.

In the past, fans have asked for a spinoff series that specifically follows Lord John Grey,
and uses Diana Gabaldon's novellas about the character. But when specifically asked
about a potential Lord John TV show, Hirsch was purposefully vague.

"We continue to talk on a regular basis about developing the story line
around Outlander. It’s something that we are aware of," he told EW. "We want to
continue to serve that audience with what we think are the best stories."

In early 2021, Outlander creator Ronald Moore said he was "very optimistic" about a

seventh season. During an interview about his new deal with Disney, Moore shared that
"conversations [were] underway on both season seven and on a spinoff."

"I think we're going to have good news on both those fronts before too long so I feel very
optimistic about it. I agree that I would've been happy to see it happen sooner than this
but everything happens in its time. I think both those things are probably going to
happen and hopefully we'll be able to say something about it before too long."

The wait for Outlander season 6 has felt like an eternity, and many people are eager
for the next installment to arrive. With the fourth season arriving on Netflix to kick off
2021, many fans are probably wondering what the future holds for the time-bending
romantic drama, especially when it comes to the possibility of an Outlander season 7.
The six-time Golden Globe-nominated series is based on the well-renowned novel
series of the same name written by Diana Gabaldon. The Starz original TV series that is
popular on Netflix follows a married English combat nurse named Claire Randall, who is
transported back to 1743 in Scotland, where she encounters the dashing Highland
warrior known as Jamie Fraser and becomes entangled in the Forty-five Rebellion
or The Jacobite Rising of 1745.
Although Outlander season 6 has not premiered yet, Starz has renewed Outlander for
season 7, according to a report from TV Line.
It’s been reported that production on season 6 is happening right now. That means
we’re not going to be seeing season 6 (or season 7!) anytime soon.

Outlander season 7 release date

As mentioned, it may be a very long time before an Outlander season 7 release date is

revealed to the public. The time between the fifth and sixth season was so long it
became known as Droughtlander that many fans feared they would not survive.
The series has seen gaps of about a year or more in between seasons with the
exception of the last hiatus, and there is no telling when Outlander season 7 will arrive.
At the time of publishing, the earliest we could expect to see Outlander season 7 is
sometime in 2022, but it could be even longer than that.

When is Outlander season 7 on Netflix?

Outlander season 7 will likely arrive on Netflix at least a year or more after the season
finale airs. At the time of publishing, don’t expect to see Outlander season 7 on Netflix
earlier than 2023.
There are still two more seasons of Outlander waiting to hit Netflix before season 7, so
we’ll have a much better idea when the new season will arrive after season 5 and
season 6 hit Netflix.

Outlander season 7 cast

We do know some of the cast who will be involved in season 7 of Outlander. According
to TV Line, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are definitely returning for the seventh
season, along with Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin.
We’ll share the full cast list when we find out.
Outlander season 7 synopsis

We don’t know exactly what Outlander season 7 will be about, but we have a pretty

good idea. According to the TV Line report, the seventh season will be based on An
Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabladon.

Outlander season 7 trailer

There is no trailer or teaser for Outlander season 7, and it may feel like an eternity

before any kind of promo arrives.
We’ll be sure to keep everyone up to date on any news regarding Outlander season 7
as it comes out. Stay tuned for more information on the Starz original series that is very
popular with the streaming service’s subscribers.

Sing me a song of a lass that is going to stick around for a while.
Outlander has been renewed for Season 7, TVLine has learned. The historical drama’s
seventh season will consist of 12 episodes and will be based on author Diana
Gabladon’s novel An Echo in the Bone.
“We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the
epic Outlander journey,” showrunner Matt Roberts said via statement. “We can’t wait to
get into the writers’ room and start breaking Echo in the Bone and look forward to giving
the fans another season of this exhilarating story.”
Starz confirmed that series stars Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton and
Richard Rankin will return for Season 7. The cast currently is filming Season 6 in
Scotland. TVLine’s Cable Scorecard has been updated to reflect the news.

Twelve-year-old Spoiler Alert for the book: An Echo in the Bone chronicles Bree and
Roger’s life after they (and their kids) return to the 20th century, where they encounter
someone else who has time-traveled to that era. Back in Ye Olden Times, Claire, Jamie
and Jamie’s now-grown son William become embroiled in the Revolutionary War. At
least two established characters die, a few new ones are introduced, someone is
presumed dead and Lord John takes drastic measures to keep Claire safe, which
creates a whole new set of problems.

“Outlander” has been renewed for Season 7 at Starz.

The news comes as the show is currently in production on Season 6, which was
supposed to begin last year but was delayed due to the pandemic. Season 7 of the
popular series will be based on the seventh book in Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander”
series, “An Echo in the Bone.” It will consist of 12 episodes.

“Starz is committed to investing in unapologetic, bold premium storytelling that

amplifies diverse voices and shines a spotlight on women in front of and behind the
camera through our #TakeTheLead initiative,” said Christina Davis, president of
original programming for Starz. “The hit series ‘Outlander’ embodies everything about
our initiative including a powerful female lead character and an amazing team of
storytellers. We look forward to following the adventures of Claire and Jamie in America
during the Revolution as well as more time travel during this next season.”

“Outlander” stars Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin,
all of whom are expected to return for Season 7. Heughan and fellow “Outlander” star
Graham McTavish can also currently be seen in the Starz docuseries “Men in Kilts: A
Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.” The show follows the pair on a roadtrip through
Scotland as they explore their heritage and exploring what it means to be Scottish.

Ronald D. Moore, Matthew B. Roberts, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Andy Harries and
Jim Kohlberg serve as executive producers, with Roberts also serving as showrunner.
The series is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Left Bank Pictures, and Story Mining &
Supply Company, in association with Sony Pictures Television.

“We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the epic ‘Outlander’
journey,” said Roberts. “We can’t wait to get into the writer’s room and start breaking
Echo in the Bone and look forward to giving the fans another season of this exhilarating
story.”

We must be stuck in some sort of Scottish highland time-warp situation,

because Outlander just got renewed for a seventh season, and its sixth hasn’t even aired
yet. Starz announced in a statement today that it has green-lit a 12-episode order for
season seven of its time-traveling romance series, and that Matthew B. Roberts will
return as showrunner. Season seven will be based on An Echo in the Bone, the seventh
novel in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series. The cast, including Caitriona Balfe
and Sam Heughan, are currently filming Season 6 on location in Scotland. Och, aye

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/outlander-season-7-probably-recast-221700888.html

To be an Outlander  fan is always an exercise in patience, whether you're enduring the

year-plus wait between new seasons on Starz, or checking Netflix for season 5 on a
daily basis. But at a certain point in 2020, it was easy to wonder if we'd ever see Jamie
(Sam Heughan), Claire (Caitriona Balfe), and the rest of the Fraser's Ridge gang on our
screens again. The COVID-19 pandemic put Outlander  season 6 production on a long
pause, and while they've resumed filming as of February 2021, the current
Droughtlander remains very real. Fortunately, the historical-fantasy-romance series
dropped a morsel of good news on March 14: The show is not canceled; it's been
renewed for season 7.
"We look forward to following the adventures of Claire and Jamie in America during the
Revolution as well as more time travel during this next season," Starz president of
original programming Christina Davis said in a statement announcing the greenlit
season. While this renewal isn't quite as exciting as when the network announced
seasons 5 and 6 at the same time back in 2018, we're just going to live in the present
and look forward to the dozens of fresh episodes that await us...eventually.
Here's what we do know about Outlander season 7's premiere date, cast, and plot.

Outlander's seventh season will have 12 episodes.

As with seasons 5 and 6, we’ll get a dozen episodes in season 7. That’s down from
season four’s 13, but hey, we’ll take it.

Is there a trailer yet—or even a release date?!

Goodness, no. But we’ll let you know the minute there is.

The plot is based on the book An Echo in the Bone.

Each season of Outlander is primarily based on a volume from Diana Gabaldon's book
series, and season 7 is no exception. An Echo in the Bone is the seventh of eight
completed Outlander books. While it was released 12 years ago, a warning for non-
book readers: Scroll past this section if you don’t want any spoilers!
On her site, Gabaldon sums up the four main Echo in the Bone plot threads as follows:
Jamie and Claire Fraser are now in the midst of the American Revolution;
Their daughter Brianna, her husband Roger MacKenzie, and their two children, settled
at Lallybroch in the 1970′s (finding their feet after their return from the past—but are
unaware that that past is just about to leap out at them again);
Lord John Grey and his step-son William (Jamie’s unacknowledged illegitimate son),
are embroiled in the Revolution on the British side with William in the army and Lord
John on the clandestine side of intelligence; and
Jamie’s nephew Young Ian: his troubled love-life is about to take another sharp left turn.
In the season 5 finale, we see Roger (Richard Rankin) and Bree (Sophie Skelton)
attempt to pass back through the stones while tethered to their son, Jemmy. That
attempt failed, ostensibly because one or both of them were unable to get Fraser’s
Ridge out of their heads when they imagined “home.” Barring a major divergence from
the books, that means we’ll see them go back to the future in either season 6 or 7.
The cast will include a new face playing someone you’ve met before.
Heughan, Balfe, Skelton, and Rankin will return as Jamie, Claire, Brianna, and Roger,
the network confirms. Given their appearance in the source material, it’s safe to bet that
we’ll also see David Berry and John Bell back as Lord John Grey and “Young” Ian
Murray, respectively.
We’re most eager to see who’ll portray the all-grown-up William Ransom, the son Jamie
conceived during Claire’s 20-year absence, who was raised by Lord John Grey. Last we
saw William in season 4’s “Blood of My Blood,” he was played by young actor Oliver
Finnegan, so this will be a Fergus-style recast.

Matthew B. Roberts will continue as showrunner of Outlander Season 7.

Adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international bestselling book, Starz has
committed to this 12-episode order for Outlander, assuring the hit time-travel
saga will run a seventh season.

Outlander Season 7 will be based on the seventh of the eight books in

the Outlander series, entitled An Echo in the Bone

While no premiere date has been announced yet, the Starz program has already been
renewed for Season 7.

Catch the sneak peek below and, in the meantime, fill up your Droughtlander by tuning
into Men in Kilts on Starz.
