A. Reviewing of past lesson or Presenting the new lesson


Review – What is an adverb?

Setting of Rules for maximum learning-before continuing the lesson, teacher will ask what should the pupils do so
that they will understand the lesson and learn?
 Focus and listen carefully to the explanation of the teacher.
 Ask question if there’s something you did not understand.
 Shouting of answer is not good, wait for your name to be called.
 Try to involve in all the activities. If teacher asks you something try to answer.
 Enjoy our lesson for the day.
 Refrain from pressing any button of your cellphone or laptop while teacher is presenting the lesson.

B. Establishing a purpose of the new lesson


Unlocking of Difficulties
1. Ferdinand Magellan- a Portuguese explorer, he was the first to go around the globe and
proved that it is round.
2. sail- to travel through ship sails
3. island- land surrounded by water
4. mass- a church activity
5. baptize-it is act to show that you become a follower of Christ
6. spear- a long pointed weapon
(Motivation)
Teacher will present the story of Ferdinand Magellan through a recorded video clip
Teacher will read again the story to be followed by the learners.

Ask questions and present the lesson
Questions:
1. When did Ferdinand Magellan reach the island of Samar? on March 16, 1521
2. How did they sail to Cebu? tirelessly
3. Where did Magellan die? in Mactan
(All the answers to the questions are examples of adverbs.)
We learned last that adverb is a word that tell something about verb, adjective or another adverb.

We also discussed the first kind of adverb which is the adverb of time. Your answer in question #1 is an example of
adverb of time. It answers the question when.

Kinds of Adverbs

1.Adverb of Manner - it tells how an action is done. It answers the question how. Most adverb of
manner end with -ly.
Examples: 1. Lapu-lapu bravely fought Magellan.
2. Magellan and his men sailed tirelessly to Cebu

Today we will focus on the next kind of adverb which is the adverb of manner. Again adverb of manner answers
the question how. Most adverb of manner end with -ly. It can come before or after a verb.
Examples: 1. Lapu-lapu bravely fought Magellan.

2. Magellan and his men sailed tirelessly to Cebu.
How did Magellan and his men sailed to Cebu?
