GENERAL CHEMISTRY
SUMMATIVE TEST
1.

a) Ion –Dipole Forces

b) Dipole-Dipole Forces
c) London Dispersion Forces
d) London Dispersion Forces
e) Ion Dipole
f) London Dispersion Forces
g) Hydrogen Bond

2.

a) CO2
b) SO2
c) CH3CH2CH2NH2
d) H2CO
e) CH3OH

3. F2, Argon and Fluorine have the closest boiling point. Both of them have very weak intermolecular
forces which mean they also have very low boiling point.

4.

a) n-pentane has a stronger intermolecular forces that neopentane.

b) HF has a higher boiling point due to the fact that it has a stronger intermolecular forces which is
hydrogen bond, compared to HCl that has London Dispersion Forces
c) The IMF present in LiCl is ion-dipole forces. This is the reason why it has a relatively high boiling
point compared to HCl.
d) The IMF present in n-hexane is dipole-dipole forces while in n-pentane is London dispersion
forces which makes n-haxane’s boiling point to be higher that of n-pentane.

5.

Propane
Acetone
Ethanol
-The IMF present in propane is London Dispersion Forces, in acetone is Dipole-Dipole Forces an in
ethanol is Hydrogen bond. And since the stronger the IMF, the higher the boiling point and hydrogen
bond has the strongest force between the three and London dispersion has the weakest, we can safely
say that propane has the lowest boiling point and ethanol has the highest.

6.

a) HBr
b) HF
c) CL2
d) CO
e) CH4
f) HCl
g) CH3CH2CH3

7. Water(H2O) is not as syrupy as hydrogen peroxide(H2O2), it has lower viscosity. Water’s boiling point is
100 °C and has a higher vapor pressure than hydrogen peroxide. Although there is not much, these
differences exist because hydrogen bonding of hydrogen peroxide is stronger that of water.

8. Water does not have the strongest hydrogen bond but it has the highest cohesion that results to its
high surface tension. This is the reason why water forms into beads on wax car finish.

10. Vaccination teaches the body to recognize new diseases. It stimulates the body to make antibodies
against antigens of pathogens. It also primes immune cells to remember the types of antigens that cause
infection. That allows for a faster response to the disease in the future. Vaccines work by exposing you
to a safe version of the disease.
Vaccines play an essential role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases and have saved millions of
lives worldwide, especially among children and older adults (rpc.senate.gov). However, just like in the
past years, hesitations and worries still exist because of the possible side effects of the vaccines. But we
must remember that vaccines are thoroughly tested to make sure they will not harm you or your child.
