MODULE 3B: LEARNING RESOURCES

LESSON 1: LEARNING RESOURCE MAPS FOR DISTANCE LEARNING

Activity 1
The DepEd Memorandum on Suggested Strategies in Implementing LDMs for SY 2020-
2021 included the Learning Resources (LR) Map as a guide in selecting the appropriate Distance
LDM to be implemented in Schools/Divisions.

1. Based on the map, what resources should you have in order to implement the LDM
adopted by your School/Division?

Answer:
Kakawate National High School (KNHS) implements PMDL and ODL as the
prescribed learning delivery modes. Deped Commons and LR Portal are the usual
resources we have in order to implement the LDM adopted by School/Division. At the
same time, students are also advised to watch the lessons at the official page of DepEd
Channel TV 13. Printed modules from the division and the school are sufficient for the
learners. Virtual classes provide Powerpoint presentation which is also usually sent at the
prescribed Google Classrom or Facebook Messenger after the session.

2. Do you have the complete resources for the Distance LDM needed in class? If the LRs
are not complete or not available, what steps will you take to make these available? What
are your options to substitute these missing LRs?

Answer:
Grade 7 Curriculum has been provided with the complete resources for the
Distance LDM since printed modules are available. Teachers upload the soft copy of
modules and Home Learning Guide for the students who opt to have soft copy of the
lesson.
Before the beginning of the class, teachers were told to make ADM in a Word
Format in case there would be no modules to be given to the learners. Thus, the LRMDS
Coordinator compiled it for emergency purposes. These lessons are aligned with the Most
Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) provided for this school year.

3. What support will you need to maximize the use of the two DepEd-sanctioned LR
Portals? From whom can you get this support?

Answer:
To maximize the use of the two DepEd-sanctioned LR Portals, I usually ask our
Department Head, Eric J. Manuevo. He assist his subordinates with technical experiences
on the downloading and using of the materials accessible in LRMDS.

4. Based on your evaluation of the materials, are they appropriate to the level and
characteristics of learners? Are there learners who might be disadvantaged by the
materials (based on reading ability, level of learning independence, level of household
support, distance)? What adjustments will you make in terms of the LRs?

Answer:
The resources to be used nowadays, particularly the modules are learner-friendly,
gender sensitive, and culturally relevant that suits the grade level and characteristics of its
target learners. Nevertheless, it is true that some learners may find the module difficult
especially those who are struggling when it comes to reading and comprehension. I think
it would be better to lessen the link given on each module since not all students have
cellphone and network connection is not really strong. It is a must to have a conference
so as to address challenges in this new normal setting of education.

Activity 2

In your LAC Session, share and discuss your answers from the previous activity. What
support can you provide to your colleagues and what support can you get from them in terms of
LRs? Take note of the insights that you can gather from your colleagues.

Answer:
In terms of LRs, the LRDMS Coordinator, Ms. Remie Anne B. Cabugayan
is approachable. Together with the faculty, a collaborative approach is better so
as everybody could help one another. MAPEH Department and the Grade 9
Curriculum where I belong give a hand-in-hand assistance which make the
responsibility clear and concise.

LESSON 2: ACCESSING LEARNING RESOURCES FROM DEPED PORTALS

Activity 1

Establish access to the following portals: 1. LRMDS Portal. Ensure that you have an
LRMDS Portal Account. If you have not registered yet, follow the LR Portal User Guide to
guide you in your registration process. Alternatively, seek assistance from any of your colleagues
or your IT personnel in your school, district, or division. You may also coordinate with your
LAC Leader and/or Coach. To understand the portal better, you may watch the LR Portal Video
Tutorial located in the resources of this Course. 2. DepEd Commons. Ensure that you have
access to DepEd Commons. Refer to Memorandum on DepEd Commons dated March 17, 2020.

Explore the Portals. Answer the following questions:

1. Given the LDM adopted in your School, how can the two DepEd portals respond to your
LR needs and those of your learners’? How do they complement the LRs that you already
have?

Answer:
DepEd Commons and LR Portals are effective in terms of encouraging our
students to engage the learners brainstorm in this new normal setting of education. These
help the learners relate the lessons in the modules and effectively provide mastery of the
lesson or session.

2. What are the challenges in accessing the LRs in the portals both for you and your
learners? How will you overcome these challenges?

Answer:
The challenges that we encountered in accessing the LRs portal are: Technical
Issue and Computer Literacy. Most of the students and even teachers are not provided
with the high bandwidth or the strong internet connection that online courses require, and
thus fail

to catch up with their virtual lesson. Though PMDL teachers use printed modules, some
of the activities must be sent through online. Another is computer literacy, although
students are born in this computer age, most of these learners lack knowledge when
it comes to the operation of MS Word and PowerPoint Presentation. Most probably,
to address these challenges, activity sheets must be done for the students who really
cannot send outputs through online. These guided worksheets may interchanged

the activities in the modules through localization and resourcefulness.

3. What support will you need to be able to maximize the use of the LR Portals? From
whom can you get this support?

Answer:
To maximize the use of the LR Portals, the support of the school and parents must
be needed so as to encourage more the students to use more of these platforms such as
DepEd Commons and DepEd Channel TV.

Activity 2

In your next LAC Session, share and discuss your answers to the questions in Activity 1.
Explore how you can help and support each other in using the LR portals. Jot down the insights
and helpful information regarding the use of the LR portals.

Answer:

At the end of the day, collaborative effort is needed to meet the qualifications of
upholding quality eduaction in this troubled times. Each grade level in our school can
have a combined activity every time they will access the DepEd LR portals specifically
LRMDS and DepEd Commons. Teachers with the same learning area and even grade
level may collaborate in the contextualization and localization of a learning resource
material.

LESSON 3: ASSESSING THE LR MATERIALS

Activity 1

Study the LR Rapid Assessment Tool. Download an LR from either DepEd Commons or
LRMDS Portal and assess the material using the tool. Answer the following questions.

1. Was the material able to meet all the requirements?

Answer:
After assessing the material entitled Quarter 1, Module 1 downloaded from
DepEd Commons, I can say that the material is alligned in the MELC for Week 1. The
words and activities existent are suitable to the grade level and learner characteristics in
terms of language. It is also easy to reproduce and the mere fact that the module was
uploaded in the DepEd Commons implies that it was written by reliable authors. The
module as a whole is culture- and gender-fair and free from red flags and plagiarism
issues. The lay-out is good and user friendly.

2. Were there any questions in the assessment tool where you answered “No” or “Cannot Be
Determined”? What decision will you make on the LR material? Why?

Answer:
So far there are no question that seem ambigiuous or unclear. The answers match
with the lesson proper. Hence, The downloaded material reached the standards
reproduced
in the LR Rapid Assessment and usable for the learner’s mastery.

3. Are there other aspects of the material not covered by the tool but still need to be assessed?
Specify which aspect/s.

Answer:
None. The downloaded material reached the standards reproduced in the LR
Rapid Assessment and usable for the learner’s mastery.

4. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for your lesson and
your learners?

Answer:
Guided with the MELCs, it has been easy to pick the right LRs for every lesson
that suits the needs of the learners.

Activity 2

Explore other non-DepEd LR portals/platforms you can find online. Take note of the
portals. Download at least one LR from each portal. Assess the materials using the same tool and
answer the following questions:

1. Based on the Assessment Tool, how does the material from a non-DepEd Portal compare with
the LR from the DepEd Portal?

Answer:

The materials downloaded from the given non-DepEd portals do not go

systematic
study from our LR personnel. Information must be studied well to verify its validity.
Some
content is not contextualized and localized particularly in the vicinity of the City of San
Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

2. Based on the results of the Assessment Tool, what improvements do the materials — both
from
DepEd and Non-DepEd portals — still need?

Answer:
As I went over both, the DepEd portal LR is worthy enough to be used in the
classroom. The Youtube LR has traces of plagiarism in terms of the photos used, the
formatting is congested, and the form is not appealingly pleasing.

3. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for your lesson and
your learners?

Answer:
As a teacher, it is better to read well the content of the online resources before it
would be used or given to the students. So, there wouldn’t be any case of the Privacy Act

that may threaten you as a teacher. Plagiarism must be prohibited so it’s better to be
vigilant with this matter.

Activity 3

Choose one of the LR materials that you have developed. Assess this material using the
same tool. Answer the following questions.

1. How does your material compare with the ones that are obtained from the online portals?

Answer:
Previously, we were advised to create lessons in Kotobee. Then, we also used that
in creating ADM. These lessons are made following the Learning Competencies stated at
the Curriculum Guide as well as the MELCs provided by each grade level and subject
matter. Some video lessons, I have made looks ordinary though MS 365 is very useful
specially for Powerpoint Presentation wherein you may record yourself while talking or
explaining the lesson.

2. What improvements do you still need to make in your developed material?

Answer:

I think I need to improve my illustrations and explore other platforms to develop a

more inviting virtual video lesson to the class. Since most of the learners have phone, it is
better to engage them with video lessons which they may upload for better understanding
of the printed modules they are answering.

Activity 4

Share and discuss your answers to the questions in Activities 1, 2, and 3 in your next
LAC Session. Jot down insights and information that can be useful to you in choosing the
appropriate LRs. Submit your LR assessments with your reflection on the exercises to your LAC

Leader. Ensure that you keep a copy for yourself.

REFLECTION

Learning Resource Materials are used to bring learning towards the youth
of today. These include assessment tools, worksheets, additional activities
such as performance-based or result-based output, quizzes, motivational games
and more.
In this time of health crisis wherein Face-to-Face encounter with the
learners are being prohibited, these materials become a link to transmit and induce
educational engagement unto them.
