A New Baby Joins in the Family

Alex was at home when his father called and told him he
would have their new baby. His father said, “Hey, Alex, are you
ready for a big surprise? Your mom and I are on our way home
from the hospital You will see your baby brother very soon.”

Alex could
not exactly
tell how he was
feeling at that
moment. He
jumped for joy and screamed out of excitement upon hearing
the news. He had been waiting to have a younger sibling. As an
only child for eight years, he was lonely and had always wished
to have a playmate at home.

That afternoon, he quickly packed away his toy truck and

finished the glass of chocolate milk he was drinking. His heart
was beating fast as he waited for their car to enter the garage.

“Can I touch him, Papa? Will you allow me to hug him?”

Alex asked his father upon seeing the baby.
“Of course, Alex! But we need to be
extra careful and gentle. The baby’s bones
are still very soft and sensitive,” said his
father. “Since your mother is still weak and needs rest some
more, I want you to help me look after your baby brother. For
now, maybe you can help by trying to cheer him up when he
starts crying. Will that be fine with you, Alex?” his father asked.

Alex was more than happy to do his father’s request. He

understands that having a new baby was not easy and would
bring some changes in the family. However, he also knows that
his baby brother would bring their family more love, fun, and
happy memories.
