PART II. COMPUTATION

Instructions: Answer each question legibly on a clean sheet of paper. Show complete solution for full points.

1. Empty cylindrical cans can be used to measure rainfall at any point in a given area.
a. Assuming you used a 20-cm. diameter receiving can to catch rainfall in your locality and poured
the collected amount into another can, what should be the diameter of the measuring can (in
centimeters) so that rainfall amount to be recorded is comparable to amounts collected using the
standard rain gauge?
b. If 7.9 mm. of rain was collected in the receiving can, what is the equivalent depth in the measuring
can?

2. Find the missing monthly precipitation for Gage X for each of the following scenario:
a. Scenario A
Gage Annual precipitation (cm) Monthly precipitation (cm)
A 89.58 7.02
B 85.04 6.98
C 86.45 6.85
D 87.5 7.14
E 90.82 6.99
X 88.45 ?

b. Scenario B

Tip: For the area determination in thiessen and isohyetal method, plot/print/trace the given figure in a graphing
paper then count the number of squares/boxes inside each subdivided area. You can refer to the Figure c
provided below. Any scale or measurement can be used as long as it is the same all throughout the whole figure.
