Evolution of Communication
Language has been part of human history and life thousands of years ago. It undergo many
changes that resulted into diversity of language. Various forms and styles was created which is
open for everyone.
There are many forms of communication, but in this editorial cartoon, the evolution of
communication is being discussed by illustrating a very humorous cartoon in which
communication is pointed as how people “share” things. The drawing depicts the genesis of
communication which is by stone etchings from the early stone eras. Industrial evolution
developed the usage of type writers in which listing became more easier. The 19th century
boomed the world with mass publication of books, logs and journals in which a global rise in
knowledge was recorded. Here comes the 20th century, countries started the raise for
modernization where the internet and email was first introduced. It gave way to many more
inventions and opened a lot of things that made living life much more easier. As the year 2000’s
came, it is very inevitable for the technology to rapidly evolve defining a new generation of
people and communication.
Five evolution of communication is depicted where they have big impact in human life and
behavior; but as show in the drawing the current state that humans are in is somehow similar
to what the stone people looks like. Clearly it tells that because of the fast and fluid
communication that we have, we tend to have a poor mind, less knowledge and low memory.
We have reached the peak of human life, now we are slowly, or should I say rapidly falling to
failure again.
This editorial cartoon is made by Academic Media Technologies which is under the category of
Social Media Cartoons. The source is a “group” where they are experts in vast knowledge of
media forms.
The creative technique used in this editorial cartoon that attracted my attention is the main
drawing. It is very humorous and self-explanatory. People now a days, favors more of just
looking at images and understanding its message individually. I like the idea that the main point
of the cartoon is vividly presented in which a deeper understanding is the only thing required.
Other people might think and take this cartoon in a positive way, visualizing that the next state
we are going to have is more advancement and not downfall. They might take it that the next
figure is a robot where for them it is very “cool”. Having no idea that in reality, we are going
back to square one.
A lot of things are represented in this cartoon, from history, way of living and the future.
Communication is connected and related to anything especially to technology, advancement
and life. The things that are represented here are things which is in the state of danger.
Basically, this message is sent to be an eye-opener to the current people of this generation that
we need to make a move to keep the balance of life. It sounds the calling of a stand to put an
hindrance to aggressive advancement. It is also to alarm the people that we need to preserve
our identity as humans and treasure a lot just like language and communication. This cartoon
leaves a message to the audience, What’s next and what will you do?
