The research determined the perception of the community on the

effectiveness of barangay tanod in crime prevention on the Municipality of

Agoncillo. A descriptive research design in a quantitative approach was

employed in this research. Through Raosoft Calculator at a 5% margin of error,

a total of 376 respondents were chosen through stratified random sampling

from the Five Barangays which are Barangay Subic Ibaba, Subic Ilaya, Coral

na Munti, Bilibinwang, and Banyaga. A survey questionnaire was used as the

major data-gathering instrument. It was subjected to Cronbachs’s Alpha and

resulted in .869 which means that the instrument is reliable and valid. Such

statistical tools used were frequency and percentage, weighted mean,

independent t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. The majority of the

respondents are in the age bracket of 20-24; male; highest educational

attainment is college, and in terms of civil status is single. Conduct of

Surveillance and Patrolling, Conduct of Proper Arrest, and Conduct of traffic

were agreed by the residents according to their assessment that these

variables are being practiced by duties and responsibilities of barangay tanod.

It was found out in the assessment that sex, age, and civil status were

not significant to all variables. However, while in educational attainment was

significant only in terms of the conduct of surveillance and patrolling. The

researcher proposed a plan of action based on the result of the study which

consists of the areas of concern, findings, objective/s, a person involved, and

expected outcomes which may improve the effectiveness of crime prevention of

barangay tanod. Recommendation for further research is discussed in this

study.
